What’s the difference between nitride or phosphate? Is one better than the other?
David P on May 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Nitride is a harder finish and typically looks more like a blue finish. All of the kits I've built from PSA parts have this finish and I like it. Phosphate finishes are more utilitarian and are more "military" looking. They only protect against corrosion, but are easier to repair. My experience has been 1oo% positive with the nitride finish.
I'm new to building ARs. If I bought this kit, will I have a complete AR? Or would I have to purchase other parts separately.
camss on Jun 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You will need a lower receiver and a few tools. Check the internet for videos about assembling AR's. The rest is provided in the kit.
If I bought this along with a stripped lower, would I have everything I need to complete an AR? Or would I need any special tools to complete. Thanks!
camss on Jun 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes you would have everything you need except a magazine. Roll pins and good channel locks plus masking tape to cover parts so you dont scratch. Also a small hammer. Go online and look up assembling an ar and you will get a better idea of what all you need. You can also find a website where you can find assembly instructions and print off. I bought the same gun but tricked it out with a different trigger and desert earth parts to match up. You can do that anytime.
what lower is recommended or this kit?
Matt G on Apr 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Matt, patent on ar lower was from 1959. It’s a mil spec part which means there’s actual dimensions it must fit to be bought by the .gov. I’ve used Anderson and Palmetto State lowers with that kit and had zero issues. Unless you need a specific look. Anderson has the closed ear lowers which cuts out about the only weak point there is. .
Is the bore nitride finished or just the exterior?
Elliot W on Jun 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Given the process involved, I believe the entire barrel would be nitride finished. Most seem to use salt bath nitriding which heats the metal and then dips in the solution for around 4 hours.
For anyone who purchased a matching Flat dark earth magazine, what brand/model did you buy? Did it match the other FDE furniture? From the photos on here, most of the magazines are lighter in color.
Scott P on Jun 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: My gen 2 pmags match very well
On kits like this, would the front sight interfere with optics added to supplement the included sights?
Chris A on May 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You will see the front sight on most optics. When using a scope magnified, the sight seems to disappear. With red/green dots you will see it. My dots usually line up with the sight post. If it bothers you, you may start with removing just the sight post. I never had a problem leaving the military sight in place. If you never plan to use the original sight again, you can simply cut off the sight above the gas block area.

Great Value
I am a fan of Palmetto kits. Overall quality is very good. By not paying for a 'brand name' at a retail store, you get a great price, the option to customize, and some good experience!

PSA 16" Midlength Nitride 5.56 NATO 1:7 MOE EPT Freedom Rifle Kit with Rear MBUS, Flat Dark Earth
I bought this rifle package on April 27, 2018. Shipping was prompt and the package was complete. I had an Anderson Stripped lower that I used to complete the build. Everything was as advertised. The trigger contact surfaces were polished and the trigger is very crisp for a mil spec trigger. I have polished my own before and this was up to my standards, which aren't competition standards but as an LEO, I consider this better than most duty weapons that I have shot.

The build went together without a hitch. I helped break in the BCG with a couple of hundred pulls before putting any rounds through it. Today was range day (6/7/18) and the initial sighting in with the supplied sights went well. No problems or concerns with the first 200 rounds. Not a hickup, no miss-feeds, no light strikes.

6" group at 100 yrds consistenly with iron sights with 55 gr ball ammo. I'm sure it will tighten up with an optic and a heavier grain bullet. Very happy with the quality of all of the parts. A complete rifle for under $420.00 with MagPul furnature is awesome.

Great package for a great price! I have more stripped lowers and more projects in mind. I would definitely build one of these again, and wouldn't hesitate to carry this on-duty, use it for home defense, or just plinking.

If you thinking about it, dont hesitate!
Highly recommend it to anyone. It's a great rifle, nevermind the price. 1000 rounds later and zero issue s people say palmetto rifles don't like steel case ammo that 1000 rounds says otherwise. Above all it's made in Merica!

Overall very happy with my build kit purchase. All parts were packaged individually which should make for easy identification and everything is in good condition. Upon receiving my order today I checked everything over and my only issue is with the bolt. Bolt carrier looks good but the bolt is not proof marked for HP or MP testing as well as the finish is patchy. Called customer service and they were very helpful but said they cannot guarantee the proof marks however all reviews online I’ve seen have these proof marks. Ended up sending the bcg back and will update this post upon receiving the replacement.
