5.7 Carry ammo

I think this quote from Buffman-Range answers your question regarding defense Ammo.

Sans Sheradon Gauge visually inspected what AAC I may or may not have and didn’t see evidence of a crimp issue. Granted that would be hard to see.

Yep the flared case can be seen with a naked eye but all the others I have from Lake City are also flared,

So with big brand name ammo as I understand we have only two manufactures, AAC and Fiocchi…I have looked at the head stamps and then the packaging matches to Speer, Fiocchi, Federal and FN…
or the above mentioned could all be mfg. and relabeled for civilian market by Winchester over in Lake City Munitions as they are big NATO suppliers…would be nice to know as the cartridge moves forward.

I stand corrected.

Yeah, and they had 2,000 round cases.

But that was when you could get any of the EA stuff in stock. They even had S4 projectiles for reloading

The sun is becoming warm here (54121)
problem is 20" of snow going into the range
winter hangs on here sometimes til May
I hope for more warmth soon to get out
and shoot the new equipment.

FYI: I had some range time today to try out the Fiocchi 62 grain subsonic ammo in my Rock. First shots were without the Dead Air Mask HD and they seemed fine, nice small holes in target. I installed the mask and the first round keyholed at 10 yards. I checked the suppressor for baffle strikes but did not see any. Put 10 more through the suppressor and none keyholed but the holes were larger than the ones shot without the suppressor. I think the short barrel in the Rock may not have enough length to stabilize the bullet enough.
I shot some of my reloaded SS197 clones. I put the target out to 25 yards with an 8" round shoot and see target. I put 12 of 12 rounds fired on target. I cannot believe how well I can shoot the Rock. Thinking about dumping my 9mm guns and replacing them with Rocks.

I had no issues with keyholding using the 62gr subs, but you are correct that the shorter 5" barrel may BE borderline long enough.

I’m somehow missing the point of a subsonic 5.7x28 cartridge.
I have a M&P Compact for that.

I mean I wouldn’t want a 50+ grain round flying at me at 950fps…

Also punching a vest with a subsonic is amazing.

It’s still going to punch through a vest going that slow?

There’s caveat’s to that statement. It has to be a thick jacketed bullet. IE SGK, or the New 60gr FN SB193… The Fiocchi 62gr is a Hornady bullet and will not.
