Warmed up, back to the desert hiking

Arizona is a beautiful place. I have lived here nearly 12 years and embarrassingly have not witnessed with my own eyes some of its best places. Still have not been to Monument Valley. I need to get out more and start hiking again.

Did one last desert hike today, I figured today would be the day to have a snake encounter, didn’t happen and I couldn’t be happier!

Don’t you have rattlers at higher elevations as well?

The supposed Black Rattler, but they are few and far between from what I’ve read. Did see a King snake out one day last summer at about 6k altitude

Back to the sticks today, too hot for desert hikes now. Lack of moisture this year had me wondering if the springs would dry up, good to see the water

Mistletoe has infected numerous trees here, doesn’t make for a healthy forest

Not many things in bloom other than a few cactus

If you like the tree it’s growing on, Mistletoe needs to be removed every year or two. It will stunt the tree’s growth or possibly kill the tree by using up the tree’s nutrients as it spreads. The root-like structure that grows into the branch will sprout a new plant over time, so it’s difficult to remove permanently.

If you’re really energetic, you can cut the mistletoe and set up a kissing booth around Christmas time! You’ll be helping the tree and whoever gets to do the kissing!

My regular hiking trails have been closed inside the Hualapai park boundaries, fire danger too high.
Been doing the hill north of the park, Gov. land, BLM, I have no idea, guess its ok if some idiot sets this side of the hill on fire :flushed:
