I watch a lot of Star Trek TNG and I have to say that the death of Tony Todd has inspired me to attend the upcoming local ComicCon and start to meet some of the ST actors. While Tony Todd EXCELLENTLY played Kern, Worf’s brother in TNG, it was his depiction of an older Jake Sisko in the Deep Space 9 episode, “The Visitor” that hits the hardest to me.
As a son and a dad to a son, his performance in that episode drives me to tears every time I see it. When he as future Jake tells past Ben (his dad) that he had to end his life to start over because he wasn’t able to live a fulfilled life and become the man he needed to be without his dad there to guide him; wooo, that’s a tough pill to swallow. And Tony Todd’s delivery of that line just breaks my heart. He nailed that role and every line of that script.
I would have loved to have met him to just to pat him on the back for his acting in that episode.
i do not blame you. I may go. hell maybe we could meet and go together. IDK. i’d have to bring my walker in the least, just to amke sure i could make it through and have a place to rest walking wise… unless they rent out motorized scooters for folks like me… that would be the ultimate way i could enjoy it.
Not really a farmer. That was part of the “man of the land” myth. He did graduate from the Naval Academy and served in the submarine service before going into politics.
It is my understanding that his brother Billy was more in the business of leasing out the family’s Federal peanut growing license more than farming. This I got from the lady that was, at one point, Bert Lance’s secretary. Lance was Carter’s OMB guy.
Post-Presidency Carter really put his money where his mouth was - a Real-Life Christian Philanthropist. Not a Clintonesque “Hey, everyone give us a Bajillion Dollaz so we can ‘Humanitarian’… Wink Wink” Philanthropy.
