How do you store your ammo?

Long term storage are .50 cal ammo cans, although if I had it to do over I would have gone with .30 cal. The .50s are just a bit too heavy when full.

I have a handful of both and you’re right. If you don’t mind the weight the 50 cal are a little easier to deal with, but with 30 cal you can separate by caliber, type, brand, etc. That might be useful, too.

I would also say it depends on what ammo you’re storing in these ammo cans or ultimate storage.

I bought a firearm from a guy they told me he had 1200 rounds of match ammunition to go with it. Which really based on the price that I bought a gun at was just a bonus. But when the guy I brought the ammo out that he had 90% of it he had dumped in 30 caliber steel ammo cans. So he had just taken $2 a round match ammunition and turned it into 50 Cent around thinking ammunition because all this stuff had been beat against each other with dented cases as well as other defects. Just be careful of what your doing

I live in Florida so air conditioning runs often. If I am comfy, so is my ammo and everything else inside my house. I bet the same is true for you as far as your comfort in your house. unless you store it in the garage or somewhere else, it is fine in original boxes or loose in ammo cans, anyway you like.

Just make sure even with AC you check it.

I only use USGI ammo cans to store my ammo. I won’t use the aftermarket ones that you can buy. They aren’t anywhere near as durable and strong as the USGI ones. I put desiccant packs in every ammo can. I check all of my cans every so often to recharge any packs that need it. Over time I get all of the moisture out of the packing materials and then if your seals are good the desiccant packs won’t need to be recharged anymore.

Just a quick note - any intermittent A/C will alternately cool any metal below dewpoint then expose it to moist air above dewpoint, inviting that moisture to condense on the metal.

Air Tight is the best way in that situation. Cans or at least vac-bagging. Or both.

Goes Double for Firearms and Appurtenances.

super nice stackj there Greg. I use the same type of cans myself. I sould have thought you’d be the same way as i am with the ammo.
