badcrc on Jan 22, 2019

I wrote PSA about 1 1/2 weeks ago and have yet to get an answer. Maybe writing my question this way it the way to go. I purchased the 22 long rifle upper and it did NOT have a magazine included with that purchase. In the description it stated that this upper used the Black Dog Manufacturing magazines. GREAT, I was wondering if OTHER manufacturers magazines would work with this upper. Maybe CMMG or another company? Thanks I will continue my wait.
Bulldog on Feb 5, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Go to the Black Dog website, I use their mags for my Sig 522 and they worked great for the PSA upper as well.

will a suppressor fit on this?
Nevercaught on Jan 23, 2019
BEST ANSWER: At the very least you will need to swap this very nice but very long handguard. It extends over the flash hider, which I believe it removable. I have not done so, myself, however.
Will a silencerco sparrow suppressor fit with this handguard?
Timothy B on Jan 23, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Not an exact measurement and based on a similar PSA dedicated 22lr. The diameter of the inside of the handgaurd is approximately 1- 1/4" wide and there is approximately a 1/4" space between the barrel and the handgaurd

very accurate
I was very pleased with this 22 Lr. upper as it was very accurate and functions great on 22 Lr. shells. I did find out through trial and air that it does like CCI ammo the best. as a 5 shot group out of this left a single but jagged hole at 25 yards. and for 22 Lr. shells that is good. those that say they shoot farther must be doing it in doors because the wind plays a lot on this light round. But for a 22 lr. this is a very nice and accurate gun.

Works great...can't get the flash suppressor off
Works flawlessly with Black Dog only issue is the flash suppressor is cranked on so tight that I've scuffed my upper and cracked the flash suppressor trying to get it off. I will either have to return to PSA or find an armorer locally so I don't mess it up any more trying to get the flash suppressor off so I can put on my .22LR suppressor.

Love it
This upper maid my AR my new favorite rifle. Works great very accurate. Using mad dog mags and have put over 500 rounds through it with no problems. Accurate enough to make me want to buy a better trigger.

Nice .22lr plinker
This is my 4th palmetto state build. Good quality on all of them, and this worked great with my CMMG magazines that I have on a 22 AR pistol build.
It’s paired with Polymer 80 lower, and a Palmetto State enhanced fire control group.
The rest of the parts were what I already had in my parts box.

.22 LR upper has a few rough edges
CMMG magazines and accessories work fine. The upper required some fine tuning. The weld on the back of the bolt assembly had a bulge that left a mark on the lower's recoil buffer. The flash hider wasn't properly aligned. (This is purely cosmetic since there's so little recoil.) An instruction manual would have been helpful.

Great Training / Plinking / First Build / Introduction to AR platform
This .22 chambered AR upper is fantastic! I have it mounted on a polymer lower with a CMC trigger group and it works flawlessly. Using a PSA AR-15 MOE+ Lower Build Kit - Black - 5165450690, some high heat spray paint and the handguard from another PSA upper... I created a fun StromTrooper look. An obnoxious optic and unnecessary bipod finish the look of this fun build.
After painting and decking out with the accessories.

Amazing value
I am new to buying from PSA, but will be a repeat customer on all of my firearm and accessory purchase's. The 22 upper ran cheap bulk federal and CCI with ease. I paired the upper with the PSA Blackhawk lower and the two make a great pair. I was able to put a couple hundred round with pretty good groups.

I would definetly recommend this 22 AR upper!

Flawless function and superb accuracy
I was apprehensive to pay this much for a dedicated 22lr upper, but I wanted the same weight, grip, trigger, and function of my home defense AR. It took me a while to finally get out to shoot it and after reading some of these negative reviews, I was kind of worried about it's potential to function correctly.

I went through 475 rounds in a single sitting at the range using Remington Thunderbolt 40gr bulk ammo, my Adam's Arms P16 - 5.56 lower with factory mil-spec trigger, Black Dog Machining 25 round capacity X-Form magazines, and the Lightnin' Grip Mag Loader. My worries were laid to rest when each and every round and magazine functioned flawlessly. The extraction was not only strong, but made a neat pile of 22lr brass about 7 feet from me.

I was thoroughly impressed with the accuracy considering I was doing semi-rapid fire just to test out the unit. Out of 150 rounds on a single target at 50 yards, very few shots were outside of a golf ball-sized hole (picture attached). The last 22lr firearm that I shot was a Henry US Survival Rifle and this one seemed to blow it out of the water in terms of accuracy and ergonomics.

The Black Dog magazine's follower caught the bolt every time as it was supposed to and prevented me from dry-firing an empty chamber on accident. The Lightnin' Grip mag loader allowed me to reload the 25-round mags in about 10 seconds each; Which made plinking VASTLY more fun than thumbing in one round at a time.

This was my first purchase of a PSA product and I am exceptionally happy with my purchase.

Looks great, but not reliable yet!
So I bought this upper hoping it would run well but so far it hasn't. Out of the box I was very please with the fit and finish.
I slapped this puppy on my Spikes tacticaI lower and put about 60 rounds through it so far. Like Robert and Scott, I had major FTF/FTE. I also have had about 10 light primer strikes. I'm running a NIB trigger group from another company which may be leading to the light primer strikes. I posted my issues in a gun forum I visit and had another poster recommend a heavier hammer spring. I guess he had a similar problem an that fixed his issues.
After reading Robert's review I did notice the charging handle does have a little stiction. I will swap it with my other charging handle and see if that helps. I am also using CMMG magazines. I've notice that there is a lot of forward/backwards slop with these mags in my Spike's magwell. I think the movement of the magazines while shooting is also affecting the FTF. The gun seemed to feed better if I gripped the magazine while shooting. I am going to try the Better mags adapter and S&W 15-22 magazines. I'm hoping the tolerances are tighter and will keep the magazine at a more consistent feed height and angle. I am going to also try Roberts dremmel polishing mod. I will report back.
