What’s the difference between nitride or phosphate? Is one better than the other?
David P on May 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Nitride is a harder finish and typically looks more like a blue finish. All of the kits I've built from PSA parts have this finish and I like it. Phosphate finishes are more utilitarian and are more "military" looking. They only protect against corrosion, but are easier to repair. My experience has been 1oo% positive with the nitride finish.
I'm new to building ARs. If I bought this kit, will I have a complete AR? Or would I have to purchase other parts separately.
camss on Jun 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You will need a lower receiver and a few tools. Check the internet for videos about assembling AR's. The rest is provided in the kit.
For anyone who purchased a matching Flat dark earth magazine, what brand/model did you buy? Did it match the other FDE furniture? From the photos on here, most of the magazines are lighter in color.
Scott P on Jun 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Gen3 PMags are mostly sand colored, with the intention that the user can easily dye the mag body to the color they want. There are several online guides to dying your PMags online, I have a buddy who’s made some truly amazing designs, including American flags and tie dye. ;P so even if the base sand color isn’t an exact match, if it bothers you you can make them any shade you want.

I personally keep mine sand or black, if I end up having to use my carbine the color of the mags isn’t going to affect function.
On kits like this, would the front sight interfere with optics added to supplement the included sights?
Chris A on May 19, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You will see the front sight on most optics. When using a scope magnified, the sight seems to disappear. With red/green dots you will see it. My dots usually line up with the sight post. If it bothers you, you may start with removing just the sight post. I never had a problem leaving the military sight in place. If you never plan to use the original sight again, you can simply cut off the sight above the gas block area.
If I bought this along with a stripped lower, would I have everything I need to complete an AR? Or would I need any special tools to complete. Thanks!
camss on Jun 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You would have everything you need, but if you've never assembled a lower you should review some step by step instructions first. For the most part, the average toll box would contain the tools required, but it can be tricky due to the small parts and springs. Study an assembly guide and watch a video for reference. I've assembled several AR's, but I still have a spring get loose now and then. The kit, a lower, a magazine, and a sling is a complete AR-15. Good luck!
what lower is recommended or this kit?
Matt G on Apr 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Matt, patent on ar lower was from 1959. It’s a mil spec part which means there’s actual dimensions it must fit to be bought by the .gov. I’ve used Anderson and Palmetto State lowers with that kit and had zero issues. Unless you need a specific look. Anderson has the closed ear lowers which cuts out about the only weak point there is. .
Is the bore nitride finished or just the exterior?
Elliot W on Jun 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Given the process involved, I believe the entire barrel would be nitride finished. Most seem to use salt bath nitriding which heats the metal and then dips in the solution for around 4 hours.
Is the barrel marked to caliber?
dennis p on Jun 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes. It's marked " .556 NATO 1:7 ".
Just purchased this and wanted to know, does this have end plate sling mount? I want to pick one up but if it already comes with a sling mount on the stock or the end plate I won’t need to get another one.
David K on Aug 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This kit comes with a standard endplate without a sling attachment.

Much Better Than Expected
Arrived in four days in perfect condition. Went together without a problem. EPT trigger is excellent, as good as my RRA two stage that cost $110. Fit and finish are excellent. Not a fan of the MOE sight but worked well enough at the range, will change soon. Used an Anderson stripped lower, and the upper fits nice and tight, no accu wedge needed. Some would say great deal for the money. I say great deal period! I have two family members looking to build one now.Thanks.

FDE Freedom Kit
This was my first build project, I put the lower together with out any issue on a Polymer 80% that I milled. Everything fit real well no excessive play in the fire control pocket and the complete upper fit perfect.
Do to work I have only run 75 rounds of 5.56 thru it and to date have had no issues.
Due to the fact I live in the Commie state of CA, I chose a fixed mag so I would not have to registrar it and could keep my evil features
