The 224 Valkyrie round was developed to bring unheard of accuracy and long range ballistic performance to the AR-15 platform.

Barrel: The PSA 224 Valkyrie upper receiver was created with a 416R Stainless Steel barrel with a 1:7 twist rate for optimal accuracy over long distances.  Cycling reliability is achieved with a rifle length gas system, which is completed with a PSA Low-profile adjustable Gas Block.  The barrel is finished off with an A2 flash hider and a PSA 15" M-Lok Rail.

Upper Receiver: The forged 7075-T6 A3 AR upper is machined to MIL-SPECS and hard coat anodized. These uppers are made for us right here in the USA by a mil-spec manufacturer.

Barrel type and manufacturer? Is it Top Tier CHF Stsinless Steel, Premium Tier Stainless Steel, or Freedom Tier Stainless Steel? I know it’s Stainless Steel, but I’m wanting to know Tier and Manufacturer???

BEST ANSWER: PSA is MFG> 416R Stainless good as your going to get...
Will a Anderson lower work with this PSA 224 Valkyrie mil spec?
Jason L on Nov 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, mil spec AR 15 types will work.
Does this work with a direct impingement or does my rifle have to be a piston?
PapaJay on Nov 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This is the whole upper which means the gas system is included and already installed. This has absolutely nothing to do with your other AR or your lower. Lowers are not specific to the gas system and it does not matter.
I bought the whole upper receiver do you recommend breaking in the barrel?

This is a very high quality upper by palmetto and it fit perfect and shoots well out of my anderson 223/556 lower with 75 grain fmj rounds. Would definitely recommend.

Very good quality upper receiver. Please read below
So far I've had very good results with mine. I am shooting Federal American Eagle 224 Valkyrie 75 grain total Metal Jacket. I'm getting sub anyway groups at a hundred yards. I know the 1:6.5 twist is supposed to be coming out but even that Barrel has had reviews like with Johnny's reloading bench on YouTube. He shot multiple handloads at different grains and different weights of powder. And he had various results with both barrels. It was actually shocking because some of the times the 1 in 7 twist would do better! For instance, the 6.5 twist had a group of .855" in at 2646 FPS. Then the 7 twist had a group of .626" in at 2647 FPS.. beating the 6.5 twist rate. This is using the Federal Factory ammo gold medal 90 grain Sierra matchking. But with the federal Factory ammo 90 grain Fusion the 6.5 twist had .085" in group at 2598 fps and the 7 twist hit a 4.005" in. group! So it's a matter of playing around with which ammo you're gun likes to eat.

Excellent quality.
I purchased the 20 inch barrel but same exact set up. 224 valkyrie is a great long distance round. But like all the new caliber hype on any caliber....it takes a minute to work the bugs out. Federal has been correcting ammo....barrel manufactures trying to correct the twist...bullet manufactures have not even really started to build 224 specific for valkyrie quite yet. Still very new caliber not even a year old yet (thanksgiving 2018) ...you cant blame to gun...its the round that has issues.
Palmetto state armory....whoops ass on price finish and build quality. I love mine. I have purchased 4 uppers and lower build kits. All of which were excellent quality and extremely accurate.
I hand load my valkyrie....my 5 rnd groups at 100 yards all touch each other. But Im not lobbing 90 grains im shooting 50s and 60s.
Be patient with accuracy...load data is few and far between still. Powder companies have just started testing this round
As far as palmetto ....all the products are worth the buy ...to me its all I buy.

Don't buy this
Do not waste your money on this item. I have purchased several items from Palmetto and really like the quality, but, myself and two coworkers bought the 20 inch version of this item, first time they were fired looked promising, held nice groups, went to hell after that, tosses the 90gr federal match bullets everywhere, I'd recommend just throwing the bullets by hand, far better accuracy. Don't think you could hit the broad side of a barn if you fired it from the inside. In the process of hand lapping now to see if I can save this weapon. Very disappointed knowing the quality of earlier purchases.

Response from Palmetto State Armory
The industry has taken notice that the heavier weighted bullets need a faster twist rate, so different manufacturers are starting to release .224 Val Barrels in a 1:6.5 twist to compensate. We are currently attempting to acquire some of these for the customers who are trying to utilize the heavier rounds at range. At this time, to get the most accuracy out of your .224 Val upper, you may want to step down to a lighter bullet until the barrels with the 1:6.5 barrels are released.
