Is a special, permit required prior to purchase or to own the gun?
Bob B on Oct 25, 2018
BEST ANSWER: You can purchase this upper without any paperwork as it is just an upper. IF you mount the upper on a rifle lower then you have created an SBR (Short Barrel Rifle) which requires an NFA stamp. If you mount it on a pistol lower, then no permit is required.
Is this already put together?
Adam B on Nov 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The upper is assembled as shown and ready to pin to your pistol or SBR designated lower.

Performs well, built well, zero issues
Fantastic upper. I’ve put about 300 rounds through it, combination of supersonic and subsonic ammo, zero issues. Accurate and a blast to shoot!

pleasantly surprised
Was looking for an upper so I could easily swap 5.56 to 300 BLK. My 5.56 upper is a well-respected brand, very expensive, and I was hesitant to spend that again. The salesman at a local police supply shop suggested PSA and I ordered this upper the same day. The PSA salesman was great - courteous, knowledgeable, very helpful Shipping was faster than promised. I shot it the day it arrived, an absolute joy with both subsonic and supersonic rounds. It's very accurate, even at 50 yards, impressive for an SBR. My friend is an AR nut and was blown away by how accurate this is. He has his stamp while I wait not so patiently for mine so he shot it suppressed. It performed flawlessly and was just too much fun. It mates perfectly with my lower. Cosmetically it surpassed expectations. I deduced a star because the spacer under the muzzle break had a razor sharp edge and I cut myself, because it seems that spacer is either welded on or green loctited and cannot be removed, and because the low profile gas block limits mounting options on the bottom of the rail. I did replace the muzzle brake with a nicer one but I didn't expect a stellar muzzle brake at this price. All in all I love this upper and would buy it again.

8.5" 300 Blackout Upper
Awesome piece. Using 208gr Hornady AMAX subsonic reloads, one-hole group at 50 yards, 3/4" using 220Gr Sierra's.

Awesome upper!
Very happy with everything about the upper. Runs good and accurate for what it is. Have not run subsonics through it yet but with the 7 twist I am sure it will be fine.

Better than expected, great deal
I had gotten rid of my 300blk and I now wanted to replace it. I saw this and the deal was hard to pass up. My expectations were low, but when received it I was pleasantly surprised. Fit and finish is better than expected. It's a good shooter. I only have about 100rds through it, but I would definitely recommend this upper.

Great value
This upper is a fantastic value. I put it on top of a ruger lower and SBA3 PSA build kit. There is zero play between the upper and lower. I need to put downward pressure on the upper in order to push the rear takedown pin through. The BCG looks great, with proper staking and everything working as it should. The handguard and gas block came centered, although the forward-most screw on the handguard needed to be tightened slightly.

The handguard is solid and has no play. The QD mounts have one flaw, they are shallow. It appears that either the barrel or barrel nut is very close to the inside of the QD socket, so my MS4 QD swivel would not fully lock in. It would lock, but then pop itself out if it rotated at all because the bottom of the magpul QD barrel was bottoming out against the barrel. I swapped out that QD swivel for another one that I had that was just slightly different in length, and the other swivel works just fine.

After running a quick patch down the bore to verify there was no crud in it, I headed to the range for a function check. I boresighted the old fashioned way, by removing the BCG and looking down the bore to align the romeo and olight baldr. At the range, my first shot was within 3" at 25 yards of the boresighting guess. From there I zeroed the romeo at 25 yds with hornady black 110gr out of a troy battlemag. At 25 yards, the gun prints a ragged hole. I backed up to 50, fired off the rest of that mag, and then started mixing up ammo for a function check.

I shot federal 150 gr american eagle, hornady black 110 gr, remington 120 gr otfb, remington 220 gr ot subsonics, and also some 150 soft point handloads. In all, I shot about 300 rounds from troy battlemags and a 40 rnd pmag. I loaded all mags to full capacity to verify function. I didn't have a single malfunction, all brass ejected uniformly, and the bolt locked back on an empty chamber each time.

I was not at the range to check accuracy, but I will report on how it did. The lower still has a stock milspec trigger, hindering my best efforts a bit, and I was using a sig romeo with 2moa dot with no magnification. I was there for function, so I did not take my time, and after the initial zero, I didn't re-zero for each new load I fired, so POI was off for a few.

All those things taken into consideration, the upper ran great. At 50 yards, groups were typically between .5-.75". The 220 gr subsonics showed no signs of tumbling and were one of the most accurate loads. The hornady load printed 2" high, right where it should have. The 100 yd groups were limited by the red-dot, a 20+mph left->right crosswind and me just rushing stuff. Even so, they were consistently right around 3" across, 5" high(again, right where it should be for the 25 yd zero with hornadys 110 gr load). I feel that if I tossed a magnified optic on top and took my time, I could shrink the 3" groups down. Next range trip, I'll focus on accuracy and report back.

I was looking at this upper and comparing it to ones that cost hundreds of dollars more from other manufacturers. I figured I'd pick this one up and simply swap for a better barrel if it shot like crap. I'm pleasantly surprised that this has great accuracy for my uses and is 100% reliable. It's an incredible value and I thank the folks at PSA for producing it for us. They should be proud of the work they do.
I measured with a cleaning rod to double-check. This barrel IS 1/7 twist.
50 yd group of hornady 110 black, fired with a sig romeo red dot during function check.
Here's the upper on a ruger lower and PSA SBA3 lower build kit. Locks up with no play whatsoever.
