Disappointed
The construction of this gas tube is good and the surface finish is very nice but these tubes suffer from a serious flaw that make all of these nice aspects seem pointless. These gas tubes are too long, and to the point that you can't install them and if you do you won't be able to remove it by hand from the rifle. I actually didn't purchase this item alone, but it came installed on a PSAK-47 that I bought.
The tube could absolutely not be removed by hand from start to finish and had to be pried off with non-marring tools, and yes the locking lever was lifted and the carrier was removed.
After removal you could look at the flat face of the locking pin and see deep metal displacement from the rear bottom lug of the gas tube, and the face of the front of the tube was flattened and silver at the top, clearly indicating that someone during assembly placed it in the tilted install position and snacked it in place with a mallet. Keep in mind, this was found right out of the box, never fired. I was attempting to field strip and clean before shooting.
Comparing the tube length to the space it was supposed to fit in shows that it is too long by a substantial amount and extended beyond the stop lug on the gas block. This was with the tube sitting in the horizontal position above the operating position on the rifle.
Having a bad batch of these as individual parts is one thing and resolved by swapping them out for customers, but to actually have an assembler installing them on rifles and smacking them in place until they fit is absolutely unacceptable and shouldn't have gotten out of PSAs door.
My requests, stop using out of spec parts, check your tolerance stacking and have someone putting these rifles together who understands that beating these in place is wrong and that this is a user serviceable part and shouldn't take a gunsmith to get it off! AK or not, disassembly and cleaning is necessary.
Metal displacement on face of pin from bottom rear gas tube lug.
Top of tube is flattened and shows metal displacement. This is 1 of 2 points of contact during instal
