Hi I just received my AK 104, the CHF CL version. When I was inspecting it, it seemed to not have any visible chrome lining. This is not an FN barrel so there probably has no roll marks or stamps indicating that the barrel is CHF CL. When I Called customer service they said that the serial number came up as being the model with CHF and CL. They also emailed me and had me send pics in so they came back and said to send the ak 104 back in so they could inspect it. This is a huge hassle as i would like someone there with knowledge of their product to verify and educate me on thier process on how they build these without having to go through multiple chains just to give me a simple answer. I also have an ak 103 with the FN CHF CL barrel and it has the roll marks indicating as such, but the weird thing is it too does not show visible chrome lining, but after researching and talking to FN directly they verified that that is the correct barrel and that is how they made that barrel. My point in using the fn model as reference is that I am wondering if PSA uses the same method of producing this barrel for the in house PSA barrels, but they are in fact CHF and CL. If anyone has one or has insight on this I would appreciate an answer. Thank you
I do know a sister company of PSA has a CHF. DC Machine does their barrels. I do not know any proprietary way that they make them.
just like GuitarGUy, i do not know of any proprietary way that PSA makes their barrels, but i’m sure that if it was sold as a CHF & CL it should be CHF and CL. I’m assuming your checking the barrel by more than just looking for markings. like removing flash hiders, checking the barrel end to see if you can see the “chrome ring” on the end of the barrel, also can check in the breach too that way… usually its real visible.
For the little that it is worth, I remember reading that modern applications of chrome lining blend into the metal as opposed to “sitting on top” of the rifling, that could affect the visual inspection. From what I read they do this as it affects accuracy less than the older application. I know that’s probably not much help but figured I’d throw that out there.
Well that would explain that because my FN barrel Does not show Chrome lining as some other people who have the FN barreled AK as well said the same thing as not being able to visually see it but it is CHF and CL. One of my other PSAK but they are both cold hammer forged Chrome line barrels And I read somewhere that it may not be visually there but they are in fact as indicated Cold hammer forged and Chrome line. One of the techs from Palmetto State Armory I talked to said that you may not be able to see it but it is but they claim it is
Don’t get chromemoly steel confused with chrome lined
