Question is about gas tube length. Apparently a 20" barrel has a longer gas tube for a can, which can be cut down and threaded.
The 16" of course would be easier but I heard the shorter gas tube with a can impedes bolt action. Thinking of Ruger SFAR.
Any comments?
What do you want to do with it? A 20" with a suppressor is going to be long and heavy. My ar10 is 12.5" with a can, and its still long and heavy.
Thanks for replying
The 16 with a can is big enough.
The question is about gas tube length, will it affect the bolt action? Is it worth cutting down a 20" barrel to get the longer gas tube?
No. You can find 16" barrels that are midlength which provides a little extra, but my carbine length is just fine. I do use an adjustable gas block though.
I have the 18" bbl PA10 308 with a Silencer Co Saker 762 silencer and found the best setting for it was 9 clicks open from the mid length gas block being closed. Soft recoil and it spits out the brass straight from the port in a nice pile. This setting worked with everything from 168g match to M80 ball ammo.
I think any shorter of a barrel than 18" will not give you the desired velocity and benefit of the 308s power. Is it big and heavy even with the PRS lite stock, yes it is but that’s the nature of the beast with an AR10 platform.
You don’t want to cut down barrels, the crown is the most important and difficult cut in making an accurate barrel.
Nice.
What’s the overall length with and without the 762 attached?
Welcome aboard, the rifle is right at 40 inches overall.

Thanks!
I could not find any length or height info on the PSA website and also wondered what a can would add to the overall length of the rifle.
Depends solely on the can. You will have to check with manufacturers of the silencers on that.
