Choosing an Optic

I can’t speak to the MSR red dot, but the Juliet 3 Micro, based on the eye relief alone I can’t believe anyone buys it.

I hear you, that was all that was available when I purchased. However, the eye relief is no better on more expensive models of magnifiers from what I’ve seen.

So I ponied up for the EOTech 512 (which I absolutely love) but I’m also getting older so I was wanting to get a magnifier for it. From what I’m reading I’m wondering about what my thoughts are on the G33 vice G43. Does your nose end up just as close to the charging handle with either? I have BUIS that have to be accounted for. I (so far) haven’t found anything with better eye relief. Any suggestions?

And BTW you guys launching the ROCK right when I was getting ready to upgrade my optics was cruel, just cruel…

So the eye relief may not be great, or only slightly better on some magnifiers, but if the magnifier is longer on the backend like the Vortex or full size Juliet 3, 4, or 5, that’s what you want.

Look at the rear extension on the Juliet 3. I could run a rear MBUS and the magnifier lens would still be slightly behind the charging handle. This magnifier has the same 2.5” eye relief as the Micro, but it’s not a nonissue.

Because almost all magnifiers have crappy eye reliefs, you don’t want a micro version. You’ll be on top of the charging handle looking down the optics. You want one that extends further back making the short eye relief a non issue.

You want the G33

I agree with you there. In my case, I’m running a 10.5" 300 Blackout that is side charging, so the length at the rear of the magnifier isn’t really an issue, at least not worth the extra $$ to me.

Been using the swampfox arrowhead lpvo and I relly like it. Great quality for below $500.

If your looking for a good red dot you cant go wrong with a holosun. If you deal hunt on ebay you can find those pretty affordable. Less than $200 for a 403. I prefer the 510c and if you hunt around you can usually find those on ebay for around $260, but standard retail is usually $309.99+.

I’m a little late to the party, but my faves for dots are a romeo5 at ~120 or so, or if you have a little more scratch to burn, the MD25 from primary arms with the ACSS reticle is great for 200.

Thanks, Karlfucious and kastaway81. I also noticed several scopes on sales this past weekend, but I was not sure which one would work for me. I am hoping there will be a big sale for Memorial Day that will include optics . .

Red dot

Thank you charles.n.herrick . . . . Is there a big difference in the different red dot’s suggested in this thread?

I noticed there are 4 or 5 different models of red dot’s on sale during this Memorial Day sale. Several under $200.00.

As far as red dots go the Sparc II is a great value and its backed up by Vortex’s warranty.

Some have both red and green dots and have a night mode available

hello
Seeking suggestions for a prism for HD (astigmatism). I really want shake-awake if I can possibly get it.

Look at Primary Arms prism optics.

Second vote for Primary Arms. I have garbage eyesight and their SLX micro prism series is amazing. Currently they have 3x and it looks like 5x is coming soon. Very comfortable to use and super lightweight, which never hurts. There is a larger version but I’ve never found the micro version to be lacking anything significant. It has an etched reticle, shake awake, and nvg settings if you’re fancy like that. Eye relief is reasonable, too.

Here’s the basic 5.56 version in black. They have more reticle options, caliber specific reticles, colors, etc, but this is a good starting point.

i’ll throw a third in for Primary Arms optics… some of the best inexpensive optics are produced by them. they are solid optics. I’d place them easily on the level of vortex, and holosun, and sig sauer. I wouldnt hesitate to purchase one if i found an optic i liked in their massive listing of optics… in fact i have a few myself already.
