I got the same stuff on my upper that just came in. So just to be clear, this is not sloppy unfinished manufacturing but instead is “dry film lube”? I own several PSA uppers and have never seen this treatment until now.
I own 53 AR’s with # 54 in the works with Uppers from at least Six different makes .
The Vast Majority in my collection are from Palmetto State Armory and Not a Single one has Ever come from them of any other brand with Solid Film Lubricant applied Internally or Externally.
Why was this gentlemens rifle treated differently?
Was it an advertised Blem and an Un-treated surface had to be addressed?
Like I said before. I’ve had an occasion to cover an entire GI M-16A1 with this product and I still use it in my Professional life today.
I’m just not use to seeing this applied in a Factory Fresh setting on any product…it’s always in the realm secondary surface wear and or a preventative measure phase.
Please. Don’t toss guesses or assumptions at this. You either Know what’s taking place or you don’t.
If this is Not an across the board change in production protocol? , its a fix to a flaw on an individual piece.
Please post pictures of the “majority” PSA ARs you own regarding dry film lubricant. Having real world experience dealing with military equipment I’d be happy to tell you which ones have it and which ones don’t.
I was just curious, I was planning on shooting it no matter what, just noticed it was different than my other PSA uppers… Haven’t ordered a upper since, H&R M16-A1 stripped lower in Gray and complete 20" barrel assemblies in 1/7 and 1/12 are next and the Micro Dagger too
My understanding is how long the film has had to dry depends on the “grayness” of it. Many manufacturers do dry lube film. Several even do inside the buffet tubes also. The kicker is once you lube your rifle, you wont notice it again.
