In case you write with sharpie on the can, sanitizer or isopropyl alcohol removes sharpie with ease.
I have an old can with a bullet embossed on the top never saw one like it before. I’ll get a picture tomorrow
Lysol spray also works in a pinch to take off Sharpie…
In a bind Sharpie will remove sharpie.
If you take the marker and write directly on top of the letters or numbers you want to remove, the Sharpie will moisten the old ink and reactivate it. Now that everything is moist you can wipe it clean.

I did not know that one.
DO NOT USE ANY PETROLEUM BASED LUBRICANT ON THE RUBBER SEALS. The petroleum will degrade the seals and eventually they will no longer be waterproof. You can use Super Lube or a silicone based lubricant like you find in the plumbing section used to lube the orings in faucets. Super Lube is a lot cheaper and can be used for many more things than the silicon based can be used for. Super Lube is a completely synthetic lubricant and is a food grade type of lubricant so it isn’t hazardous to hunans or pets. Once the seal on an ammo can is compromised I would not use it for ammo storage. I have been using Super Lube for a long time on many different things. Super Lube has a high concentration of PTFE and has a temp range of 475 to -35 so it is also good for lubricating firearms. I have had some of my ammo cans for a few decades now and I have never had one of my seals to degrade. They are all still soft and pliable with no rips or tears. I use a small foam brush to lubricate my seals.
I use lables that I stole from my wife to lable my ammo cans. I use to use my lable maker and it looked a lot neater but getting them back off was a pain in the butt and they left residue on the can so I switched to the lables. These peel off pretty easily once you peel a corner up and don’t leave residue on the cans. I think my wife got them from Office Depot.
The Marmont rolling bag in the pic is there because it is completely full of spare magazines for all of the handguns in my military and LE handgun collection. Many of those mags you can’t find anymore and if you do many of them are anywhere from $100 to $2000 for the really rare manufacturers of the WWI and WWII ERA. WWI and WWII magazines and holsters are very collectable and some people only collect magazines or holsters. The holsters run in same price range as the magazines do. Many of those mags I bought when someone found a stash of weapons and mags stored in another country. The governments of those countries released them from storage and sold them to an importer who imported them back to the states. They could be pretty cheap all things considered when there was a surplus of mags in the market. Once they dried up you are at the mercy of someone willing to part with one.
Duct Tape and Sharpie work for me.
Unless it’s a Salmon Sharpie. Not sure how many people will know what that is. If you do know, then you’ll maybe remember Blind Robins too. How did we ever survive our teens and twenties?
I use a variation on this: magnetic labels from www.ammocanmagnets.com, mostly .50 cal size. (Sorry for the late post: just found this forum.)
I don’t even have any storage for containers. Maybe one day I can have a dedicated room for guns and ammo

thank ya thank ya
I just use white board magnets ( fridge magnets with white board facings ) you can write on them with a dry erase pen, move them around, as ammo gets moved. They are on Amazon for less then a buck each
Y’mean like dis stuff? ![]()
(magnet-roll here at work, that thing weighs nigh 20lb!)
(we use it for removable signage on Injection Machines, to identify the plastic type)
yep that’s the stuff
that stuff looks cool, but id be afraid of the stuff i write on it being accidently wiped off.. being dry erase and all..
so i continue to use my same old way.. i write on blue painters tape. . with a sharpee.. works like a chapm.
That is a good idea. I just use file folder labels on my cans and they can make a mess coming off to replace.
Wow looks like a whole lot of range fun! ![]()
Well at like 65 cents each you can use permanent marker. You even have a good chance you can remove it later (on white board you just go over it with dry erase and wipe soon after it works most of the time but not always, My wife was a middle school custodian she knows these things)
