Was on a business trip last week in NC. I ran everyday (my usual 3-4 miles), ate healthy, etc. I did all the things I normally do. Started sneezing on Friday. Had a low grade fever Saturday (100.2). Took a 24hr antihistamine, a nasal decongestant and 500mg Tylenol. Went to bed and felt much better yesterday. Feel 100% today. Went to the doctor for my annual physical. Mentioned my allergies kicking up since I was out of town.
Doc: “let’s run a covid test just to be sure”
Me: “ok”
30 min later: congrats, I have the wuflu, the Shanghai shivers, the tiawanese tremors…and I feel 100%. Can still taste, smell, no fever, no runny nose, no sneezing. Looks like I’m out of the office for 2 weeks.
Its crazy how diverse the reactions are from different people. Two of my coworkers caught it early on, separated by about a month, and had very different experiences. One tells it like he was at death’s door the whole time, the other said it was just like a prolonged, more uncomfortable cold.
Hopefully, your experience continues with minimal inconvenience. Got a fun project to work on while you wait?
Damn that sucks @GuitarGuy, glad you are starting to feel like the worst is already behind you. Look at it this way, you will have immunity until the next variant hits. Are you any good at removing cosmoline? You are doing the right thing getting tested and then staying home, thanks from everybody.
My oldest son has had it twice, once in late November, and in early March. When he got it a second time in March, my wife had it as did I. I ended up hospitalized for 4 days. I decided to go when my pulse ox dropped to 75.
My youngest has never had it…even with it running rampant in our house.
A good soaking in mineral spirits and a lot of shop towels or newspaper will do the trick. Let the mineral spirits work for awhile before you start to wipe. While you are wiping keep dunking your rag or paper towel back in the container with the mineral spirits to thin the cosmoline while wiping. It always does the trick for me.
Well @GuitarGuy can try wiping himself down with mineral spirits if he wants to. I would highly recommend staying away from any open flames. On the other hand ingesting some alcoholic libations isn’t a bad idea. It least if it doesn’t help with the Covid he will still feel better at least for a little while. Covid or Cosmoline I am sure @GuitarGuy doesn’t mind us derailing his Covid thread…
I had it back in March. For me it was a mid-grade flu for a couple days with the aches and a spiking fever, then a low grade fever for another week or so, and wicked fatigue for the remainder of the two weeks I had to be off. Oh, and almost no appetite, despite not losing taste or smell at all. I lost about 12lb (got it all back and more since ).
The good news is that there’s a 98+% chance (as a healthy, not elderly adult) that you will be just fine in another week or so. And it seems like you are skipping right past the bad news (feeling pretty awful for a period of time), so you should just soak up the mandatory time off!
