Just curious ⌠which can?
I have a YHM 45 Sidewinder. Thing is a tank.
I almost got that⌠I went with the obsidian .45. I most definitely want the .300blk out âmixtapeâ because I know I have a can for that! (Sandman) and ammo. But I found the yhm bad Larry near me for $800⌠and itâs very very tempting âŚ
I understand the lower will be proprietary for the Mixtape/6MM ARC Sabre. But is the upper proprietary as well? Wondering If I could at some point put a 22 ARC upper on the lower and use those new MAGPUL magazines?
We dont know much about it yet.
I hope they make additional uppers to go with it. Having a Six8 compatible lower that will do the ARC calibers without breaking bolts, limited goofy magazines, or feeding issues would open the door up to a bunch of calibers. Maybe 6.5 Grendel? 7.62x39? Theyâre all derived from the same case, though the overall length I think are different.
Even though 6.5 Grendel technically uses the same parent there are still some dimensional differences. Itâs my understanding that 7.62x39 doesnât feed properly from 6.5 Grendel mags. If anything what would make more sense is if more companies would just adopt the 7.62x39 CZ Bren 2 mag standard for rifles equipped with magwells.
Iâm excited about the Hornady partnership, but I really hope it doesnât put the brakes on future 8.6 Blackout options for the Sabre bolt guns. I already have an AR10 upper in 8.6, and Iâd love to see an 8â barrel option for the Sabre chassis when it launches. That kind of modularity is what gets me genuinely interested in the line.
Youâll be g2g⌠The lower isnât even really âproprietaryâ, it just has the LWRC Six8-pattern magwell.
Honestly, 8.6 needs to die- it was a flawed design from the start.
-based on 6.5 creed brass instead of the âfind it anywhere for cheapâ .308 brass
-same problem as 300blk regarding chambering (the same way that 300blk will chamber in a 5.56 and go boom, 8.6 will chamber in a .308)
-ridiculous twist rate realistically limits you to expensive monolithic
-case is inefficient when running subs, leading to increased powder usage and more potential fouling/debris
338 Arc does basically everything 8.6 does, but does it better and out of a small frame. The only place 8.6 has the edge is supers, but even then, youâve got the twist rate to contend with.
If you want a large-frame/AR10-pattern thumper, take a good, hard look at .375 Raptor- it stomps all OVER 8.6, with both subs and supers.
Respectfully disagree. Iâve spent real time behind an 8.6 suppressed hunting rig, and it works.
-6.5CM is based on .308, .338 ARC is based on Grendel, which is way more niche than Creedmoor. So if weâre talking case proliferation, 8.6 wins.
-8.6 can chamber in a .308. 50BMG can chamber in a 12 ga. If you canât segregate ammo, youâve got bigger problems. 8.6 and 300BLK were designed to share mags and bolts with their parent platforms. Thatâs smart design, not a flaw.
-twist rate only limits you for supers. 8.6 shines in subsonic. For subs, lead-core bullets work fine. I shoot off-the-shelf SMK lead core subs all the time for under $2/rnd
-most 8.6 loads use fast burn pistol powdersâlike 300BLK. Nearly complete burn from a 12â barrel. I havenât noticed excessive fouling in real-world use.
In my experience, 338 doesnât stack up. Itâs a small-frame precision cartridge. 8.6 has magnum level terminal performance in supers where the 1:3 twist is an asset not a liability.
I dig the 338 ARC. It seems like a real competitor for the 300BLK if they can fix the magazine issues and the bolt face problems and get it to cycle subs. Thereâs just no way ARC pushes 300â350gr pills like 8.6 can. Not even close. So for me and my use cases, 8.6 still has a place.
Still looking for a 7" rail? Geissele brought this back recently. Not sure how long they will keep it around for. I picked one up for a future build. Itâs

AAC is currently loading and testing ammo.
Look at this more I wonder if 7.62x39 and 6.5 Grendel rounds would feed out of these mags as well?
I was looking over some videos from shot show this year and in the Mixtape one the PSA rep said the upper and lower are proprietary.
Would be cool if someone made a Grendel Upper based on the SIX8 lower at some point?
We shall see where the industry goes. The 68 lower has been around for years and so has the 8.6blk.
Getting the industry to adopt something different will be interesting to watch.
this right now is what im thinking regarding everything in the current market. weâre in double jeopardy now, with the trump slump, the summer slump, and the economy not knowing its azz from a hole in the ground so no one is spending disposable moneys really has caused a lot of turbulence in the industry, including many layoffs and i fear more are in the works . this is across all of the industry, so seeing new products coming out, and seeing more innovation like the 68 lower being developed and spread out to more things is probably on the back burner i would imagine.
8.6 uses AR-10/SR-25 mags though so the cost of adoption is literally just a barrel swap. But Q not being able to get it SAMI approved has really hurt its adoption.
