An ad on Facebook appeared in my Facebook feed. I figured it was a scam. I clicked on the link: palmetostateasrmorys_shop, and it takes you to a website that purports to be PSA. Note the plural “armorys” in the URL. Prices are too good not to be a scam. I have started getting ads in my feeds from what appear to be legitimate companies, but are imposters. @sean may want to have someone check it out.
Edited to remove link that is no longer active.
They have been doing that for a few months. If its too good to be true, it is. Report it to facebook.
Facebook won’t do anything. The last one I reported, they said wasn’t a problem.
Ive reported them also. So spread the word they are fake. If people fall for it thats on them.
Those pop up frequently. I see them at least weekly.
every one i see i report as spam / false. never hear back on em, but at least im doing something. lol
Can we send in the drones?
There is no incentive for Facebook to remove the imposters, as they then lose the ad revenue. It’s like all the fake friend requests I get from someone impersonating a friend by cloning his/her account and using his/her photos. I had one friend whose Facebook account was hacked into. The hacker changed his password and started promoting Bitcoin. He couldn’t get Facebook to restore his account or delete it.
It has been taken down now. Wonder how long before the next one pops up.
Thanks for letting me know. I edited the link in my initial post to deactivate it - replaced the period with an underline.
And don’t send money to anyone if they say you haven’t paid your toll.
well i finally got the notification back from facebook, and they stated it didnt violate anything of theirs so therefore theyre not taking it down. which is par for the course. cant trust facebook to do any dam thing.
That’s their typical response. I don’t think they have any standards anymore. They do the same thing with cloned profiles. Their whole model depends on having as many members as they can, so they can sell ads. There is no incentive to remove a profile or an ad.
yeah youre right. even if it is real people looking at it they obviously dont give a sheet.
Yeah, THAT scam was on the FoxCarolina and I believe WACH 57 FOX websites too. We don’t use that transponder in SC on the few toll rds we have.
I’ve taken down quite a few of these. I took one down for Standard Manufacturing within the last few years and they rewarded me with some goodies.
Easiest way to do it is to use a website like hostfinder.io to find which company is hosting the website, contact that company and let them know the website is a fraudulent copy of a real website. Provide proof and then they’ll remove it within 24 hours.
I reported another ad purporting to be from PSA a day or so ago. I received a message today saying it was in violation of FB standards and had been removed. I was shocked they actually took it down.
Facebook must have put me on the list to receive PSA imposter ads. I had two more show up in my feed today after they told me they had taken down the earlier one.
