They know it is my favorite time of year and my favorite beer. Did they invite me to go to Munich with them? Nope.
At least they paid penance with gifts. They brought me a stein and my wife a Swarovski Crystal necklace.
I bet they had a great trip! Did they at least put beer in the stein when they gave it to ya? ![]()
Nah, it was still wrapped in German newspaper.
Last time I went to Oktober Fest was in 1978. Drove down with some fellow army buddies from Schwabisch Gmuend in my 69 Plymouth Fury. Had to park outside the city and road march in because it was just that crowed. Tried to hit every beer tent in town. We got trashed and ended up sleeping in my car. Good times. ![]()
thats a beautiful stein.
going to Munich to actually attend oktoberfest would be awesome.
Wait a tic…. It’s only September.
Correct ! Not sure why……but October Fest was moved to September some years ago.
Oktoberfest is like 18 days long, most days are in September because it’s warmer and tourists liked it better. The last weekend of Oktoberfest is in October… or is it Oktober?
Septoberfest? ![]()
Nothing Sober about it……
I spent a lot of time in Munich in the 80’s . Been out to the Oktoberfest grounds a few times. Spent time in a lot of the bars there. Actually, the cellar cool tap beer is pretty good v. the bottled stuff., except for Grolsch. My first time there in the Spring, I’m walking down one of the Strasse’s (main streets), and everyone is ooing and aahing about some vehicle parked there–AMG ?, nope, Porsche, nope. A 1200 chopped Harley. Those girls loved American bikes ! The Wall was still up in Berlin and the meadows on the Frontiers were mined by the East Germans. My sister had spent some time in the East. She’d brought back some photos and it was pretty dire. Wouldn’t mind seeing it now that’s it’s united. The Daily Specials board from a German Biergarten somehow wound up in my brother’s rec room (hmmm… beats me ) If you have the chance to go, see the Deutches Museum, in Munich. It’s their version of the Smithsonian. There’s a lot German automotive, naval, and military hardware there. I had my hand on a V-2 rocket, – you’d be amazed that those things ever flew !! Munich is pretty interesting in that it was out of range for Allied bombers, so there’s a lot of intact buildings. You can see bullet holes in the cement building walls on the Leopoldstrasse from when the Allies invaded in WWII. Go out to the OlympiaStadium and there’s a sharp knoll— hike up and you can see the Alps from the there. Check it out sometime.
