Just bought my first Ar and it runs great! Just one question for you all.ive ran a few mags through it and and found the bolt over riding the mag (not picking up a round) a couple times so I bought an h2 buffer weight for it. I’ve got one area of contact wear that looks unusual. It’s inside the charging handle channel directly below the charging handle right where the gas key part of the bcg moves back and fourth. I was under the impression that this part of the bcg doesn’t touch the upper. Anyone have similar wear here?

If the bcg was overriding the mag then it could have been pushed up into the upper causing the wear. It also could just be the gun “wearing in”, i.e. a little bit of the material where the gas key was staked acted like a bur, etc.

It is not something that would cause me concern at all, as to me it is akin to holster wear on a handgun.

i concur. i’ve had ar’s that have had their whole charging handle underside had to wear down some cause of tolerances being so tight before.. many ar’s have to break in to run smoothly in the beginning anyways. sounds like yours is running good overall albeit there is a missed pickup here and there, i’d just keep shooting it and see how shes doing around 500 rounds, and then again around 1000 rounds. as for the upgrade to that new buffer weight, you really couldnt have gone wrong buying the H2 in my opinion. I usually build most of my rifles with an H2 buffer natively. It helps the AR run smoother to me in my opinion. of course there are some things that are the exception, but many of mine have it.

best of luck, enjoy that AR, and get out there and shoot a half a case or two!!

One more thing, try a different mag. Sometimes a gun juat doesnt like a particular mag.
