Plastic American Tactical Omni Hybrid

Yesterday evening my neighbor stopped by to show me this gun he was thinking about buying. He said he liked the weight but wanted my input about it. Immediately l new it was a plastic upper/lower but l had no idea what to expect when l opened it up. Plastic pins, hammer, trigger, disconnector and safety! I told him to take it back.

yeah. That would be a pass from me also.

Could plastics now withstand the blast pressure of a firing cycle?

Not for me brother, this is built to FAIL!

Funny thing about engineering design. If you design and test a polymer receiver like the Israeli Tavor, the Mexican FX05 or the HK G35, they will have at least the expected life of the military contract. If you substitute materials for a part engineered as a machined forging with cheaper castings (AK trunions) or injection molded polymer you are building crap.

Plastic FCG parts…that blew me away!

yeah, I looked at that plastic hammer and thought, nope. Just out of curiosity, what’s he asking for it?

On a .22LR? Sure.

Anything more, doubt it long term.

$350 for it and $500 for this Diamondback 9mm that looks like it has been under a bed where a cat sleeps. But inside appears it has not been shot much. So l broke it down for a good cleaning. I told him jump on the 9mm if not l will…like l really need another one.

Both of those weapons are overpriced. $500 for a Diamondback AR-9 with no sights or optic, no stock or brace, a keymod rail, and clearly wasn’t taken care of at all? That’s a quick and easy no thanks.

Show your friend how to order parts and build an AR of his own. Can get one for less than $500.

I built him one, he just has no time to do it himself. He turned the deal down. Your right about the Keymod and no options…and it is a nasty 9mm platform.

But this caught my eye LRBHO which I’m a stickler about that.

So l bought it and showed it some love!

Anyone ever seen this??? On the hybrid

Pinned gas block!

i’ve seen pinned gas blocks before, but usually the pin is in all the way… that looks to me that the pin has worked its way out some.

Same length on the other side too

OMG, screw that. In 2014, during that Clinton gun scare, I bought an Omni lower. I got it for s build for my wife, to save some weight. The quality sucked, and it was a standard AR lower receiver, but polymer. It broke in short order. I had seen that they started molding in aluminum at break points, but I generally avoid ATI now. I will say, I got a KE Arms polymer lower, and its fantastic. Its completely redesigned to work with polymer, and has uncaptured takedown pins. Its an excellent system, and actually works! This is a gas piston DMR I built.

Looking at it l see the stock is molded to the lower…good looking rifle! About how many rounds have you ran thru it?

Back during Trump v Biden I figured it was long overdue that I invest in the AR platform

Initially my searches led me to the Omni Hybrid

That in turn led me to Palmetto State Armory

Five PSA ARs later, and I’m sold on PSA

That’s how I got here
