PSA PA-10 Gen 2 Upgrades

Other than the adjustable gas block, what are some other recommended performance upgrades that everyone would suggest?

Suppressor.

Larger ambi charge handle, especially if you’re going to mount a scope on it.

What stock are you running ?

I really like Tubbs 308 Flatwire recoil springs and heavier buffers in mine ( Along with the SLR Adj. GB. )

Any criteria as far as a muzzle device ?

I would argue that a suppressor is the single best upgrade to any firearm. Once you get used to shooting everything suppressed it really is hard to not to not using a suppressor. If suppressors were more readily available in the military and LE a few decades ago my hearing would be tremendously better. I would also say that if the modern electronic hearing protection was also available back then so many of us wouldn’t have the hearing loss that we have. Protect your hearing because once it is gone there is no going back. Same thing with using eye protection.

To get it to run! I installed the PSA adjustable gas block, replaced the aluminum 3 1/4” heavy buffer with a KAK 2 1/2” AR 10 buffer, removed the AR 15 buffer spring and installed a SoringCo orange heavy AR 10 buffer spring. I did a trigger job on the factory stock one which is very nice, Installed the Limb Saver butt pad which is super sweet as well, replaced the original firing pin which I found to be to long with a Wilson Combat heavy duty firing pin. Least of all a Vortex 16x43 mm scope

Your buffer change could cause damage to you lower, if you didn’t change the buffer tube as well… I am concerned about changing from a 3.25" buffer to a 2.5" buffer length.

There are to dominate carbine stock patterns… and the various parts do not interchange !

Please do not fire your PA10 until you have confirmed your Carbine “pattern” being used !!

See this thread… measure your buffer tube length and compare the parts you have to what is shown in the thread.

I measured the receiver extension it is 7 1/4”, that of a DPMS style utilizing a 2 1/2” buffer , an Armalite extension is 7 7/8” which would utilize the 3 1/4 “ buffer correct? I ran about 80 rounds thru it was the first time I was ever able to get it to run! It actually grouped 1/2” -3/4” shots at 100 yards, Previous attempts I couldn’t hit a 12”x12” target at 25 yards !!! With the same ammo. So I’m a bit confused as your telling me PSA put an Armalite buffer system in a Mil Spec type DPMS type set up ? I realize there is some proprietary features with the PSA set up any helpful input would be much appreciated. I pulled the rifle apart I know for a good cleaning and inspection afterwards and really didn’t see anything unusual as was not the situation running the stock set up !

PSA has an intermediate length buffer tube on their 308.

You got it right . I just wanted to make sure !

You are correct ! I got lucky with just minor dings, no apparent major damage, I think the orange Springco saved my butt ticks me off, I ordered an H-3 buffer 3 1/4” darn shame PSA has a decent barrel but there lower configuration is garbage as it’s sold, Will be the last one for me. BTW in doing my research afterwards ! I reviewed several of your post on various forums concerning thus thanks for taking the time.

What I don’t understand is I measured my receiver extension at 7 1/4”. When I received the lower the tube wasn’t screwed in far enough into the receiver to catch the buffer den-tent pin as soon as I took out the rear take down pin it all flew out like a slinky. I called customer service but I figured I could correct it my self instead of mailing it back I had spare castle nuts on hand ! Now I’m thinking that’s why it measures shorter than their spec

I have a gen2 and would like to up grade to the adjustable gas block of the gen3 .
They do not seem to be available. How do I get the new gen3 gas block?

Any adjustable gas block will work as long as it is the correct size for your barrel. A quick measurement with calipers will tell you the size.

Unless you use a can, adjustable gas blocks just make your gun unreliable. If you want to shoot a variety of bullets, the hot loads will appear over gassed, but it will cycle Tula and mixed russian as well. A lot of guys are fixated with using the least amount of gas possible, which is fine if you only shoot one load. But the most common excuses for an AR not shooting properly start with “my can” or “my gas block”.

I would like to keep it all PSA.
Thanks for the input.

Range report! Thanks for the input, I guess we’re not allowed to express our frustrations but in the end it paid off, 100 yard target various type rounds.

The right hand target I’m walking in my scope!

I’ll have another 200 yard report as time allows, this is a Gen 1 PSA 20” 308 Win with upper, with a PSA, A 10 lower.
