PA65/PA10 buffer and spring upgrades to mitigate recoil?

Are there any recommendations regarding compatible upgrades to the PA65/PA10 to mitigate recoil? I am looking at the KAK Industries LR-308 CARBINE HEAVY BUFFER (2.5" buffer @ 5.0 ounces) and the Tubbs AR308 flat wire Stainless Steel Buffer Spring.

Do you have a carbine tube or rifle length tube? I personally prefer an adjustable gas block matched up to a heavy 308 buffer.

It is carbine length tube with an adjustable gas block (both PA65 Gen 3 platform).
I am looking to reduce recoil as much as possible.

You can try a heavier buffer and spring, but you may need to open the gas block a notch. You are at the fine tuning stage.

KAK 5+oz buffer as you mentioned, but I like the Springco orange extra power spring for the 308.

I use that same setup in many of my PSA’s. But I do use a SLR Adj. GB, mainly because my PA10/ 65’s did not come with Adj. GB’s
As mentioned you might need to adjust the GB some.

What is the PSA Adj. GB set at currently, and how well broke in is it ?

I have been able to adjust the PSA factory gas block to consistent 4:00 ejection. So the factory setup buffer and spring work just fine with factory gas block about 3 clicks out from most closed position. I opted to purchase a heavier 5.3 oz buffer (Expo Arms) and the JP Tuned and Polished Extra Power Carbine Spring. Both look to be identical in length to the factory setup. I will send a follow up post after some range time. I am hoping for some modest improvement in felt recoil. Again, the factory setup (yellow spring?) works just fine in my 6.5 Creedmoor PA65.

Update: The Expo Arms 5.3 oz buffer and the JP Tuned and Polished Extra Power Carbine Spring work perfectly in the PA65 setup. With the VG6 Gamma muzzle brake and the buffer/spring upgrade, felt recoil is significantly reduced. I suspect that with a Silent Captured Buffer Spring System it would be even better , however, I am very pleased with the aforementioned setup. Fired off about 80 rounds and the brass was in a neat little pile at 4 o’clock! I am super pleased.

If I may ask, where did you purchase your buffer and spring? Thanks, Terry

I purchased both the buffer and the spring at Primary Arms.

VG6 Gamma and Epsilon are on almost all of my rifles. Recoil mitigation is noticably improved. The felt concussion is also more noticeable, unfortunately. The CAGE device helps, but is an extra cost (about the same price as the muzzle device), and I’m pretty sure they were discontinued. Overall, though, I love the VG6 devices.

The BFD58 from Indian Creek Designs works well with the V6 Gamma. The BFD Blast Forwarding Device directs the harshest sound waves away from the shooter and the firing line. What I like about the BFD is that you can easily take it off or put it on (no tools needed). Don’t forget to get the thread protector (for when the BFD is off). Just gives you an easy option if the folks next to you on the line are irritated by the blast/sound.

Nice to know there are other options out there! Thanks!

Hello-new to forum and my first AR10. I bought the 308, 20" Gen3. When I got it home I added Magpul PRS gen 3 butstock with nice thick pad, a ambi NP3 coated charging handle, the JP Enterprises Silent Captured spring buffer replacement, Hyperfire Hypertouch Competition trigger set at 3.5lbs, ATI X2 pistol grip, UTD overbore bipod, ultradyne Apollo Max muzzle break, Tract 4-20X50 30mm scope with onepiece base and a Dead mule recoil reducer mounted in a Mlock flashlight holder on the handgaurd. I had to wrap it a few times with black 3" pipe wrap tape to fit the flashlight holder.
When shooting the recoil seems closer to a 223 with 70gr rounds. I cannot take much recoil anymore and this is pleasant to shoot.

Will the stripped ps10 gen3 upper be available for purchase?

Welcome to the forums @Sim_672

Upgrade to two Dead Mule recoil reducers and changed brake to a Without Warning - Tuner Muzzle Brake (GEN 2.5) from BulletCentral. Shoots even softer, but the roar is loud.

The adjustable gas block and extra power spring and buffer are a plus to mitigate recoil, but the muzzle device is important as well! All PSA except the upgraded furniture.

Nice rig. I like how you set it up, very similar to mine except I have the PRS Lite, a PA scope, and independent M-LOK bipod legs that mount at 3 and 9.

You might enjoy this much softer recoil pad. The Magpul one is a rock compared to these.
Limbsaver makes softer resilient recoil pads for numerous Magpul stocks.

And @Klfuller2

And a cheek pad… different thicknesses…

Or more Magpul “PRS” models…

FWIW… I apply them and then wrap them lightly with a self adhering ACE bandage overnight.
