So might have f’d up my M16A4 PSA premium barrel when I used a laser boresight that might have been a 300 blackout one instead of the 223 one.
I think the chamber might be ruined, i tried removing the barrel with the AR tool but without a vice, I’m not doing diddly squat.
Next step is going to gun technician (no gunsmith around here) and see if they can take off the barrel and if i can push the bore sight from the other side, then see if it’s still a go or no go.
So if the case is that the chamber/barrel is ruined I want to get this A4 ready to go. Hence where I would need a Sabre A4 upper or the PSA premium barrel
Yeah, unless you were smashing the thing in with a hammer or something, you’re not going to do a whole lot of damage to that barrel. Maybe some superficial scratches, but that is probably it. Get a wooden dowel or a brass or aluminum cleaning rod and coming from the muzzle you should be able to push it out. Wood is preferred, if possible, but cleaning rods are more common. You might have to give it some light taps, but that should be enough.
i see Guitar Guy suggested what i was going to as well. a wooden dowel from lowes would work wonderfully.. use that and hammer the hell out of it.. you wont hurt anything.
itll pop out and you’ll be fine to go
I hollowed out the boresight so the cleaning rod goes straight through. I took it to the range I go through, I usually tend to make things worse hopefully they’ll get it out and use a gage to let me know if I did some damage while trying to pry it out. Like you guys said it should be that bad………… I hope
I noticed that - very Risky, drilling that out as opposed to just pounding it out from the muzzle with a dowel or cleaning rod. THAT is where you might actually damage the chamber, if the cutter gets away from you.
It appears made from Brass; even if you had really wedged it in there with a mallet, I don’t think it likely for a boresight device to damage gun-barrel steel.
If your cutter didn’t get anything but the device, I think once it’s out you’ll be Okay.
There MIGHT be some brass transferred to the wall of the chamber, or the lede - in that case a good Copper solvent and appropriate diameter plastic bore brush, and some elbow-grease & time will be your friend.
Just get a 5.56 broken shell extractor and use it to pull the case out. That is exactly what they are designed for. If you don’t have one you need to buy one anyway as they are indispensable to remove the shell at the range. I have a broken shell extractor of the proper caliber that stay in the rifle bags. You can get a military surplus 5.56 and 7.62x51 broken shell extractor pretty cheap.
@Texifornian I am happy that I could help you. I am just happy that @Rufus still has his sense of humor. Unfortunately he just lost his younger brother. I can’t imagine how painful thst must be. Harold I will see you Saturday at the Gathering. I did notice that it had Micheal’s name on it. Will he be going to the Gathering with you again this year?
You are more than welcome to hang with us on Saturday if you want to. Robert, Alex and I will be going on Saturday. Thankfully @Josiah_PSA interceded on my behalf with the Clinton House. I will have a golf cart on Saturday. Many thanks to @GuitarGuy, @GamecockOperator and @Josiah_PSA for helping and making that happen for me.
