PSA upper feed ramp issue

1st time shooting my new build with PSA upper and lower. Every time a round from the left side of the magazine stack went to chamber it would get hung up on the feed ramp. Any idea what could be causing this? I think there may be a small burr in the feed ramp or perhaps a tolerance issue in the machining of this part. Anyhow, I put in a warranty claim and I’m waiting to hear back. I want to take it to my local gun Smith to get the feed ramps polished but I am afraid that will avoid my warranty. Should I just wait?

Using UTG mags, sterling 556 ammo. Evreything was cleaned and lubed.

Get better mags. Try a pmag and go from there. FWIW, I avoid UTG parts like the plague. Much of their stuff is airsoft quality at best.

My local shop carries pmag. Ill swing by today to pick up a mag and report back. Thank you @GuitarGuy

@GuitarGuy picked up a pmag and different ammo but still keep having the same issue. I also tried taking off my fab defense magwell grip in case that was the problem. Lastely, i adjusted the mag release as far in as possible but that did not make a difference. The shop also had some nice Daniel Defense mags that were on sale. May pick one of those up tomorrow to see if that makes a difference…

Unless you cleaned that for the photos, that’s dry AF.

ARs run wet.

I sprayed down my bcg at the range 2 days ago. Havent cleaned or re-lubed since… Ill lube it again but seems unlikely to me that would be the root cause of my reliability issue. @rockymountainjeep

I haven’t memorized your timeline

ARs run wet, especially so during break in

Yeah, it needs to be dripping.

This is my first AR so I figured providing how much time its been since I last cleaned and lubed might be helpful. @rockymountainjeep

Ill give it another soaking and see how she runs.

Pay attention to the end where he lubes an AR

I use 0W-20

At this point this should be a sticky, whether you follow it to a T or not. At least you get the idea…

I’m not saying this will 100% cure your problem, but your gun is dry.

I do know for a fact that this will only help, and not hurt anything.

I remember being surprised on my first AR15 and being told to make it wet… now all of them drip

Just made some with 0w20 and some synthetic grease I had laying around in the garage.lol it definitely runs smoother, but still jams. I think my best option will be to wait for PSA warranty to get back to me.

I didn’t know UTG made AR magazines. I just looked at some prices. They run over 9 apiece. SHK mags are 7 right now, I think. Better deal if you need cheap mags. I have a few. I mostly have Magpul Gen2; they can be had for about 8 each, but they don’t come with dust covers like Gen3 mags.

The old standard millitary issue LSA (sperm whale oil) works just as good now, as it did back then. Relatively cheap too.

I don’t know. I have a hard time believing that problem is being caused by lube issues. Mine run wet but I don’t soak them and I don’t run it dripping. Ever.

First thing I thought was a mag issue but it shouldn’t happen with different mags. I’m wondering what weight buffer you are using? Is the buffer intact? Like is the weight good? The spring? Is it a carbide buffer and not a rifle buffer? Something along those lines?

I sure hope its not a lower related issue. I only shipped back my upper for my warranty claim @Spider1 . The lower I am using is the PSA freedom classic lower with zero modifications. I believe its a carbine buffer. Not sure on spring rate or any of those specs. How do I check the buffer to rule it out as the cause?

(Apologies for my lack of knowledge, this is my first AR)

I just think y’all need to shoot these things and burrs or whatever will work themselves out.
Back in the day we never thought about sending one back for warranty work.
Lastly way back when, I was told to break in new ARs with steel cased ammo. The reasoning was the harder cases would take care of any fouling.

Like I said, Im new to ARs. I would have dismissed a FTF here and there, but I never got this gun to cycle on its own once. Every round that would go to chamber after the first shot would jam on the feed ramps. I have a pile of about 20 rounds where the bullet is pushed back into the casing. In retrospect, I should have taken it to a gunsmith for an assessment before assuming it was the upper and sending it back.
