What do you think about Lead Star?

I’ve been looking to add a cool rifle to my collection, mainly because I have some money to spend. Maybe I’ll spend it on a future PSA product, but I’ve had the itch to just get something cool.

What do you guys think of Lead Star? Would you choose it over the Sabre series, or would you say they both hold their own? (I have a FDE Sabre Billet, one of the best rifles I’ve ever owned)

Lead Star is good stuff. They are well known in the shooting competition world and make a fantastic light weight rifle. Their grunts have been purchased by a few LEO’s as a dept gun.

I like the style and the specs are pretty good for the price. First thing to go would be that flash hider :joy:

I only discovered their existence a month or two ago browsing randomly on the site. The specs and features on the rifles all seem great for the money, but the designs are a little busy for my taste personally. I can definitely see the appeal for others through, and PSA should probably try to highlight their existence a bit more because they’re pretty hidden in the site. Maybe a tab or a big picture link on the main page, something like that.

I swear I remember some of these models having the ambi bolt release. I could be thinking of something else though, maybe the PSA custom series.

Either way, it’s going to be this or an AUG. the AUG would truly just be a insert bad word here piece for range day imho. I have no need for it, and it’s really not practical😂

They were at The Gathering last year and they’re ergos are top notch.

The pistol grip looks like my Sabre and I love the one on mine. The only thing turning me off is the flash hider, but it’s such an easy fix. I’ve also heard that the design is very grippy. I may just pull the trigger on it

I hear ya, a bird cage would be the last thing to stop myself.

I tend to do that to myself a lot, try to find something that I don’t like. I gotta stop doing that :joy:

Looking more closely at some of the Lead Star rifles, you can clearly tell where the inspiration for the Sabre came from. Especially the billet ones.

Sabre is the top of the line now. .
Lead Star was previously.

or thats how i look at it. If you like the lead star rifle, go for it. i almost did the last time i got a rifle but instead i went with a ODG Jakl, so maybe next time ill go with a grunt or barrage myself. That said, i think yall hve covered it all pretty good so far, but the only thing other i’ll say is if it wre me between an Aug and the Lead Star, I’d buy the AUG as long as it were the Nato Mag accepting version.

Just got my .308 DMR III in today. Very impressed with the quality for the price. The trigger is super light and crisp. Setting it up with a ballistics dialed in thermal and a bipod and one of my suppressors for pigs. Great value for the price.

@crainb45 welcome to the forums!!! sounds like you have a nice rig setup there. feel free to post up some photos if you wish!

I have a few AR’s. (LMAO, a few, right, says the guy with a gun room, etc. ) My first custom build was a Mega Lower, YHM upper and parts, Timney Trigger, top of the line everything, built by a gunsmith( he also did my competition 1911, and damn) so it is without a doubt the pinnacle of upper mid tier. I have assembled, Anderson, Daytona Tactical, PSA, JamesMadison, EP, etc. and I bought a Lead Star complete lower because of their reputation. The Hyperfire trigger is nice, I prefer RA 140’s but it is still nice. I put a basic PSA hex slim upper, added my own NiBo BCG and KMT charging handle, then rattle coated the sights and other parts to match the lower. I bought the Lead Star hand guard, but I like that Hex upper. I paired it with budget 1-6FFP LPVO and I will say it is on par with my custom build. The trigger is a tad heavier at 3#, where my Timney is 1.5#. Accuracy is solid. I am not trying to MOA a battle rifle. If I can hit a soda can at 100 yards, then it will suffice. ( in reality it is about 1.5-2 moa) using bulk ammo. I like it. I have run 3-400 rounds through it. ZERO issues. I like the Bronze color. Pretty sure some yootoob operator will have so much to say about how their (blah blah Danny Defense etc is better) I could care less. Post up pics or be quiet. I started shooting in 1974. Army veteran, and multiple patent holder. I am just sharing my rifle.

Lead Star was originally PSAs higher line, / race gun setup thanks to Chad W. Personally i like a lot of their offerings. my KS47 has a lead star hand guard on it and it looks great and locks up perfect so im good with it. I’ve been eyeing a few of their rifles for a while now that i wouldn t mind adding to the collection.

was there a reason you didnt want to try to tackle assembling an AR? not that theres anything wrong with not doing it.. im just curious.. cause once you start assembling its a disease and is very contageious.

After reading the rest of your post you can ignore my question. Sounds like you have a very accurate rifle there and it looks pretty good too nicely done sir.

I don’t

Lol. Thank you brother. I do assemble. It’s a freaking disease alright. I went from a small plastic tool box of limited tools to an entire room with a custom butcher block assembly table, gun vices, clamps, alignment tools, torque wrenches, etc. . Only missing a lathe at this point. I 3D print thumb stop gas pedals for some. I have so many extra parts that I try to get my friends to loan me their AR-15s so I can reconfigure and put better parts on them for them. 3 Ar10’s in, along with 12 or so 15’s. AR9 x3, AR47, and not a single off the shelf rifle. ( No two pin push builds, lol) Quite a few Poly80’s, and slowly building two PSA 1911’s. I blame School of the American Rifle. In fact, I think his work should be required by all rifle owners. Lol. I tinker.

Yes sir! you are in the right place! i have an “office” that i use for my gun stuff.. but i also have a small build table that i use to build on. its a re-purposed microwave stand with storage underneath, that i put 4 large rubber castors on so i can move it around. I mounted a vice to its cuttingboard/butcher blockesque top and mounted some of my tools around its back side to give me more of a flat space to work on. I’ve built a ton of rifles and quite a few 1911s and other pistols there… it works well for having to have a smaller spot (wife doesnt want it all over so she and i compromised lol) you definately sound like a kindred spirit, especially with working on even your friends stuff too.. i do much the same, and have been known to have been asked to help others build and teach too… which is a lot of fun for me. Building is tinkering if you ask me.. just like my other hobby of cars.. its a lot of fun to tinker.

Dumb Question, is it Lead as in Trump is the leader of the free world or Lead as in Trump led the drivers on track in Daytona in The Beast?

Lead as in pencil lead
