2.5# mag release spring for Dagger Installed

I ordered a 2.5# mag release spring off Ebay. Install was per any number of videos on You Tube. The improvement to the Dagger is staggering . Now the original spring pinged out of my plyers to never be seen again and GOOD RIDDANCE. Tools needed : Needle Nose Plyers , flat blade screw driver. and a flash light. I did take mag release out and take edges off the button part so no sharp edges remain . Not sure I need to replace stock PSA mag release button for a larger one…I’ll let that requirement surface as I shoot the pistol and it will become either irrelevant or mandatory over time. Right now: don’t think necessary.

I’d still take a slightly extended one over the lighter spring. I don’t like messing with spring stuff, at least making things lighter. Possibility for easier mag drops under shock and vibration and stuff.

But if the only issue was the stiffness of the button, a lighter spring definitely solves that. I just think the extended one solves two issues. Easier to press in with more leverage vs stock, and you get a better button shape with texturing. The stock PSA one is functional, but lacking.

I went with the Vickers tactical magazine catch (extended) on my Dagger Compact. Much less stiffness making it easier to drop a magazine. I bought the 2,5lb springs, but did not feel the need to use them as the new Vickers catch worked fine with the PSA factory spring. This was a good upgrade.

That’s what I went with. Had one on a Gen5 before and liked how it was rounded, textured, and stuck up JUST enough but not so much it got in the way. Not sure how popular the Vickers is but I say they are underrated.

Back more on topic though. I would not trust an extended mag release AND the lighter spring. With how easy the extended release makes it, I feel like the spring as well would absolutely cause drops while I run n gun.

Just saying lighter spring fixed all issues and 500 rds later , no regrets. I don’t need extended mag release but we all have different geometry in hands so what works for you is al that matters.

What this man said!!!

I did a lighter spring with a Strike Industries mag release with the “pad” you attach.

30 round mag, picked the gun up from the top of my safe. Loaded 30 round mag crashed into the ground narrowly missing my bare foot.

Ok, I didnt seat the mag all the way??? Slammed it in there and a few minutes later I picked it up and BAM! Same thing…

Ok, something isnt right… noticed everytime I lay the gun down on the left side. The mag release would touch and engage. I immediately removed the strike industries pad making it no longer “extended”

I do usually think things through before I say them. Even the hyper extended “competition” mag releases alone cause people’s mags to drop mid stage, on accident. Longer releases can also drop/unseat your mag when you carry if you got a little fat or bend the wrong way. Last thing you want when you need the gun is a mag not seated, and only the one in the chamber.
