Wanted to buy a 300bo pistol for the subsonic capability but had a question:
Do any of you guys have a psa 300bo and use subsonic ammo reliably? Im reading people are having issues using subsonic but not supersonic. Is there an adjustable gas block on the 300bo pistols wouldnt that fix the issue or is that not what causes it
I have a 300 BO (10.5” pistol) and tried out some Hornady Sub-X ammo with it. It will not feed a new round from the mag with the subs. I have a .30 cal. suppressor in NFA jail right now, so I’m guessing it will run once the back pressure increases with the can on.
As others have said before, not much point running subs without a suppressor anyway.
I’m not that familiar with 300 bo subsonic ammo I was under the impression it ran a little quieter and was less velocity for home defense use so you think there’s no point to using it if you don’t have a suppressor on?
I belive there’s a little less powder and/or the increased bullet grain helps slow down the round, putting it subsonic. The problem is the less power translates to cycling issues. Obviously without a suppressor, there’s still quite a boom. Maybe not as loud as the supers, but they are also considerably more expensive.
Because of my experience shooting the subs and their failure to feed, I won’t use them for home defense. That’s also using just a standard weight buffer. Maybe it could be tuned to run with an adjustable gas block - I don’t have one.
I’m hoping it will run the subs when I get my suppressor. If so, I’ll put it in my home defense safe.
Interesting thanks for the information my other option was just to get a Daniel defense DDM4PDW Not sure if subsonic inherently does that to all guns but I put a question question on the forum asking that If I can run without a suppressor reliably. Maybe just using a 9 mm PCC is the way to go but I was looking for something different you know what I mean
I think it was basically made for that purpose…id have one already and a suppressor if IL allowed such things. Must be so much fun to shoot. Cant even really imagine.
Apparently the ddm4 pdw comes with two different springs incase you want to run subsonic they said. I wonder if the psa 300bo comes with extra springs or if in the future they could ship with whatever spring works reliably
Honestly you shouldnt need a different spring. With the right buffer, spring, and gas block (assuming correct gas port on barrel) it should work with supers (no can) subs and supers with can.
Hmm idk 300bo is like my weak link for knowledge but I would assume DD knows their stuff. It would be interesting to know if that would allow the psa version to run subsonic. I get what youre saying its designed to run suppressed and of course I want to do that but my mentality is I have to try and buy something good and im assuming thats another 1000-1500 bucks not including tax stamp and waiting 9 months when I just wanted to buy the gun and go plinking lol
I use a YHM .30LT. Get on silencershop.com and start looking/reading. If you dont plan to get a can, i wouldnt recommend 300blk as a caliber unless you go 16" barrel and supers only.
Mine ran fine out of the box with both. My friend had issues with his. I went with him to the range and I took my tools. We ended up drilling the gas port out a couple thousands at a time until we got completely reliable function. Then put a adjustable gas block so if he runs full power loads or a suppressor, he can dial it down a bit.
I went ahead and got the 300bo shockwave in 8.5 inch since the sba3 one is never in stock tired of waiting. Plus I like that handguard with the extra mlok slots better. I have an extra sba brace I can slap on there so its fine. Thanks for your help should be lots of fun.
Did your 300 BO work well with subs after you got your suppressor? I am thinking of getting a 300 BO pistol primarily to run subs with a can, but not sure how reliable it will be.
Hi, I am thinking of getting a PSA 300 BO pistol specifically for running subsonic ammo with a suppressor. Will the PSA 300 BO pistols run 300 BO subsonic reliably with a suppressor, or are there modifications that need to be done to get it to work properly? Thanks.
