I own the PSA AR10 308 Gen 2 and I like this rifle. I have only fired maybe 100 plus rounds thru it. I have various ammo, federal Lake city, PPU, Norma, and some wolf if everything else runs out. I have no doubt the rifle shoots better than I am capable of, no complaints. I recently purchased the Norma Tactical 308 150 grain, and am wanting to buy some of the same 147 grain, slightly faster. I have read a couple of forums where a guy said his PSA AR10 did not like the Norma ammo at all, said it was like shooting buckshot out of his AR. I do not understand this at all. I realize every gun does not like some ammo, but the Norma ammo is highly rated for accuracy, and I think PSA advertises it for sale and promotes it. The main thing I am interested in is the shorter length of the Norma 308 compared to most other similar rounds, approx. .175 inch and does this affect its performance in the PSA AR10. I have not shot any yet. I can shoot you in the head at 100 yards, so at todays prices I am not practicing much. Any info greatly appreciated, Thanks , Crazy
Interestingly, my friends SIG 716 308 hated the short bullet Norma 308.
All sorts of feeding issues , the bullet tip would mash into just below the feedramp… even tried numerous different brand mags.
I also thought the same thing about the Norma ammo… the accuracy was good enough… but the feeding sucked.
Norma 308 FMJ should use a more pointed and slightly longer bullet , IMHO
Thanks, I thought it a little weird, Palmetto seems to promote it in their AR10 rifles. I wanted to purchase some of the Norma 147 grain, 2838 fps versus 150 grain 2600 fps I wanted to see if bullet length was the same. I can only buy so much ammo at today’s prices. I am reluctant to shoot the Norma 150 grain in my AR10, but I shot some in my bolt action rifle. It shot much lower than Lake city 7.62 Nato I bought it for backup ammo. I am not so concerned about tack driving with my AR10, It is a closer range rifle with a lot of rounds. I would really like to be able to reach out and touch someone with the bolt rifle without buying match grade ammo. I am currently trying to buy some Barnaul steel case for the bolt. Thanks for the info. hwprice88@gmail.com Crazy.
Remember, or if you didn’t know, steel cased ammo does not release / contract from chamber walls as readily brass does. So if your PA10 Gen 2 cycles as fast as mine did… I fully agree that you should avoid steel cased in it.
There are ways to fix the cyclic speed, that will make for softer extraction at a lower chamber pressure. ( Adj. GB )
And watch ammoseek.com for 308 / 7.62x51 deals.
Thanks much. The barnaul is for my bolt action rifle, not for my AR10. I only shoot brass in it. Was just concerned about the short length Norma rounds. hwprice88@gmail.com, Crazy
