I’ve had my AKV for some time and have never had an issue. Took it to the range and had a full PSA mag (actually 32 rounds). I chambered a round and it did not fire. Ejected the round and inspected. It was not a light primer strike. Tried it again and it did the same thing. I then ejected the round again and repeated. Still the same thing. I then had the mag with about ten rounds in it and chambered a round and it worked fine. It seemed if I had too many rounds in the mag it would not fire. Very strange. I’ve never had this problem before. Can anyone offer any help or ideas as to what might be happening? Thanks
Pics of the ammo/firing pin strike would be helpful. Also, what kind of ammo? Have you used that ammo before?
Try different ammo. As you got some of it to fire and not others, i think you have an ammo problem. That strike is deep enough for the round to fire.
Thanks. I’ll try that next.
Can you post a pics of the ammo that did not fire ?
Those rounds that did not fire…….do they have a deep, centered primer strike ?
Did you get the same results using different magazines loaded similarly?
Have you tried to load those rounds that didn’t fire……in a different firearm to see if the alternate firearm would fire them ?
All of the above process will help in isolating whether it’s the ammo, the magazine or part of the gun.
The rounds that did not fire, did not have a primer strike at all.
I only have and used PSA mags
The PMC rounds worked fine in my other firearms
I think the ammo doesn’t take well in my AKV.
Thanks.
That could be the case. Some firearms are just finicky with certain ammo.
Update on this post. I tried three different brands of ammo and continued to have the same issue I ended up sending in the firearm to PSA. They said the bolt needed to be replaced and sent it back with a new bolt. I have seen other videos online where people have had similar issues and a replaced bolt took care of the issue. FYI for anyone having similar issues.
Thanks for the update. Nice that PSA took care of you. Did they happen to say what specifically was wrong with the bolt that was causing the intermittent failure to fire?
They did not say. When they emailed me with tracking info, there was simply a statement that the bolt was replaced and that the gun was test fired. I heard in the past there often wasn’t any explanation, so I’m glad I got something. Though I suppose I would have seen the bolt was different.
Thanks @cak. I figured it was a long shot they might have said something.
I’m new here and reading through some threads this bolt issue seems like it’s happened to a few folks. Since it’s the first I’d ever heard of it I was curious if more was known about the root cause.
Yes… im having the same problem…
Started after around or about 300 rounds. No fix kits available.
