Ammo prices

Does anyone see ammo prices dropping yet? I have always reloaded but finding primmers is hard and I’m down to 8,000 of those. Shooting USPSA monthly and now my neice has decided her uncle will be her sponsor in PCC so the primers are going fast.
I’m just now looking at possibly using store baught ammo in the future, the best I can find is about $20 per 50 rounds of 115 grain 9mm. On line I have seen some steel cases for $16 per 50.
What are your findings across the country? I’m in NC.

I’m paying 19.99 for 115gr 9mm either brass or aluminum case.

Here in Colorado, prices are half what they were 2 months ago.

Seems like we are past the peak, save for some convenient event or threat to legality causing a new spike in demand. As the supply continues to rise, the prices should inversely begin to fall toward sanity again soon.

Seems like they are at most retailers. I get/got mine almost exclusively from Academy (they never gouged, but have slowly gone up maybe 25% since the start of this crap but I attribute it to inflation and suppliers) and a few online deals including PSA here and there. I just never gave in to the prices, except maybe for some brands or bullet type or just flat out stuff I didn’t need because hey it’s available and not a rip-off.

I have noticed the gougers on the local boards have backed way down as supply is catching up. I hope they eat some serious losses.

You can find it as low as $17/50 online, but you have to pay shipping. If you can buy it by the case, sometimes you will find free shipping.

Having Remington’s equipment back producing ammo helps.

But June 2021, was the second highest “June” firearm sales in recent history… so it is still happening.

I think we are past the peak, and as mentioned , provided no Anti-2A surge… I think costs will come down. Nowhere near as cheap as the Trump Era though.

I guess I am saying, … buy what you can afford. It probably won’t get a heck of a lot cheaper.
I have lived through two Anti 2A periods.

Fortunately, American firearms industry is “vertically integrated” - i.e. they make all their own parts and don’t have to import too many parts.

And if they do import actual screws, it is low risk, since manufacturers like PSA and Bear Creek have LOADS of CNC lathes (screw machines).

The primers - almost all made in the USA.

BUT the constituent costs for almost everything -

  • Health care for firearms company workers
  • Energy Costs
  • Worker Wages

Are going UP.

I was going to say, Steel material costs are going up, but I’m not sure if they are.

SEPARATE SUBJECT ~
I have a 1000 pounds of Cat food cans and Corn cans (AKA tin cans), waiting for steel prices to go back to where they were in 2011. You could get 10 cents a pound for steel scrap.

I’m thinking it may go to 15 cents a pound.

As far as ammo prices, I bought some 6.8 SPC for 90/ 97.5 cents a round, just recently.

There is no 6.8 SPC brass available. Diamond K is selling used brass for 85 cents a piece.
I figure the ammo is a better deal.

Aguila 308 with brass cases, is back down to $24 per 20, $1.20 a round.

Those are “normal prices”.

Meanwhile, 6.5 Creedmoor is hard to find for less than $2 a round.

I think the high volume rounds (that manufacturers make a lot of) like 9 mm and 5.56 and 308, the prices we are seeing now are as good as it is going to get.

6.5 Creedmoor may be real popular (and high volume), but I would be real surprised to see pre-Covid prices like 80 cents a round.

Happy me day. I stumbled across this box pushed way in the back today.
