I know that you “should” match AR-10 lowers and uppers from the same manufacturer, however there are many success stories of mixing and matching. Please list any successful PSA AR-10 mix and match builds you have completed and what (if any) modifications you had to make.
Welcome to the forum @TexG , I wish I could help answer your question, however I haven’t built an AR-10 platform yet from PSA
This topic has some potential. I have an acquaintance who has everything to put a gen 3 kit on a DPMS style lower. From what I’ve read it might just all go together A-ok but will probably need some minor filing. I’ll remember to post back here once it’s all done.
This is isn’t a success story, it’s a notification I got from 5D Tactical.
“I can confirm that our lowers are not compatible with their uppers as they create uppers that stray away from the DPMS Gen 1 design. In regards to lower and jig compatibility, I can confirm that our lowers will work best with our jigs.”
I sent them an email to check their 80% LR .308 lower compatibility with a Palmetto Gen 3 PA10 rifle kit.
Hope it helps.
I’m still looking for an 80% lower that will work with a Gen 3 PA10 kit without “some filing”.
All PSA Lowers except 1.
Alex Pro Firearms <== Them I do not recommend.
Uppers are mostly Palmetto State & Bear Creek.
Also Daytona Tactical & CBC.
My 6.5 Creedmoor is Aero Precision.
i think thats why the upper receivers are always sold out… if you want to use a different upper the easiest way is to just replace the upper receiver with one to match the lower. from what i read all the other parts will fit great, there might be a little cosmetic thing on the rail havent got this far yet but i plan to use a scope anyways so wouldn’t matter to me.
Bear creak dont work. Just returned one
What was the problem mating them?
I put a Bear Creek 243 on my PSA lower without issue.
That’s what I am hearing.
All of my Bear Creek uppers worked fine UNTIL I over-pressured a few.
Now I have a new project, removing the brass that is stuck in the chamber.
I called Bear Creek and asked if they would help me.
They said they wouldn’t help me unless I could guarantee that there was not a bullet stuck in the chamber.
I tried to explain, it’s a piece of BRASS.
Is it even possible to get an un-fired piece of ammo stuck in the chamber ?
Care to explain?
Hot loads?
Somehow I got the idea that the 6.8 SPC could handle 33 grains of Accurate 2200.
Next time I get a shot at it I’ll use 33 grains of Accurate 2460 or 2520.
Anyway it over-pressured and the brass is stuck in the chamber.
ANOTHER TIME, I was climbing up 1/2 grain at a time and was free of pressure marks with a magnum pistol powder, which is normal for 350 Legend.
But it still went over-pressure and locked the brass in the chamber.
The pressure pushes the brass into the cavity near the bolt assembly extractor.
Then the bolt assembly can’t turn - which means that it can’t retract.
But it’s my fault. The “Holy Grail” that I was pursuing is worth pursuing, but I still over did it.
THE SHORT VERSION: Yes Hot Loads.
If I do any more load development with 350 Legend, I’ll go up 0.2 grains at a time.
Did anyone know about handguard compatibility? I have read that pa10 g3 used it’s own unique dpms low variant, but it’s different that typical dpms low. I also read it’s close enough to work.
Does anyone know? I’m looking for a carbon fiber handguard and can’t find any in dpms low let alone palmetto low.
Just got a BCA .308 upper to try with my PSA 6.5 Creedmoor lower. I read mixed reviews before ordering and new I was taking a chance. Of course they do not fit. The Radius at back of the BCA upper doesn’t match the PSA lower, so I am carefully removing material from the upper and will let you know how that comes out.
I have put 3 seperate PSA-10 uppers on 3 seperate 80% lowers made with the Easy Jig from 5d tactical. 1 was Anderson, 1 was rebel machine fab, 1 was a 3rd brand.
No problems.
Takedown pin lengths were different but did not effect function.
Ive not done any of this on a .308. I have done many 5.56/.223 guns with a stuck case. Some got stuck with the rim of the case ripprd off by the extractor under normal cycling.
If you still got a spent cartridge stuck in the chamber…
Have you tried mortaring the shell out? Colaps stock fully if aplicable.
Option 2
Cleaning rod or dowel with a deadblow hammer, start with a low powerd hit and increace ss needed.
I would also suggest some spray lube on the locking lug area.
Just curious…is your BCA upper a Gen ll side charger or a rear CH? I have a friend that had the same issue on a 80% lower, the upper is a Gen ll SCH.
FWIW… I have tried a Aero, and DPMS ( older one ) uppers… neither fit 100% correctly.
The bore center axis ( where the BCG travels in the upper ) is to high on both those.
And the location of the upper to lower connection / takedown pins was off.
sorry it took so long to get back to this, but yes my upper is a side charger.
No… psa is their own and everything else is dpms gen1… i like psa gen3, if you got another upper mistakenly thinking you could mix match it like an ar15 just buy the psa gen3 upper receiver and swap it out- easy peasy
note that bca is also dpms gen1
My 308 is an 80% with a BCA. I’ve got a 2nd that I still need to machine, and looking for something other than BCA. I’d like a psa but naturally concerned about compatibility. I read so many conflicting stories about BCA to PSA to DPMS etc………it’s enough to hold off.
