Hola,
I am building a rifle/carbine length upper for my AR-9 so I can use it until this brace thing gets cleared up. I already had a slick side upper from Aero Precision and ordered a barrel from Kaw Valley Precision. I plan on using the BCG and charging handle from my current upper (10").
Has anyone else done something like this or see any issues with the build. Normally I would just buy a complete upper from PSA but going this route has saved me about $200. For a range only rifle this is best.
Gracias
Personally I was very interested myself a year or so back. But after doing my own research I discovered that compared to all the other caliber uppers offered for the AR platform, and while
all other Calibers had their own resolvable issues, the 9mm even as a complete AR9 had its own set of function and reliability issues unique to the AR platform I did not want to deal with. I ended up buying a couple of 9mm blowback PPC’s one fixed, one foldable that work flawlessly and fill my needs.
I recomend you research the 9mm AR platform builds available on YT before they’re all taken down.
I have built about 8 or so 9mm ARs in different configs. Never had an issue outside of a broken hammer pin due to a non-ramped bolt on the 1st one I built (probably 8 uears ago). Once I had the bolt ramped, no issues. Currently have 2 set up with Aero EPC LRBHO uppers (awesome), Faxon bolts, Aero 8.3" barrels, and Gamma muzzle devices. One sits on an Aero EPC lower and the other on a PSA AR9 lower, both with KVP 7.5oz SS buffer and 308 spring. No issues at all. I’ve had 2 16" uppers but ended up selling because it didn’t make sense at the time for a 9mm. I see why you’re doing it, though. I suggest the buffer/spring I used, which is a large part of things to consider.

It is done. Almost. I mounted the KVP barrel with a Matrix Arms MLok handguard/barrel nut. For sighting I am using a Primary Arms 1x Prism scope. I kept the PSA lower stock with the exception of a few things. I did change out the brace and pistol grip for Magpul parts. I also changed out the butt stock tube lock/collar for one that accepts QD sling points.
I put about 100 rounds through it without issue. The PSA BCG in the Aero upper/KVP barrel had no issues. It zeroed quickly as well; the PA reticle (borrowed from an ACOG?) is fantastic and user friendly.
I was using Glock pmags and one Glock 26 mags. Ammo was all cheap plinking FMJ from CCI, Winchester and Federal. I believe that it was all 115 grain.
To finish this project and make it complete, I still need to hang a light on it and find a muzzle device that I like. I am leaning toward a KAK Flash Can linear compensator. Once done it will be paired with either my PSA Shagger (Dagger with a lot of Shadow Systems parts) or G26.
I used to have a KT S2K but always felt kind of beat up after shooting it. I sold it. For .40 I have a Ruger PCC. Great rifle/carbine. Pairs perfectly with either a Ruger or Glock. The size and weight help this rifle/carbine and the fact that it can be taken down (upper and lower) is a benefit.

Try a Gamma brake and you won’t be sorry. I have a Gamma or Epsilon on almost all of my builds after buying my first one.
