Might be a dumb question sorry but i am new to ARs. I just purchased an AR15 sku 5165493400 and was just wondering if the bcg is chrome lined and what the differences is. Ive seen the cheaper models have it chrome lined. Thanks in advance!
I do not believe they are chrome lined. The BCG may be nitrided in which case you wouldn’t need the chrome. Chrome lining in a BCG is usually for phosphate bcg’s. Chrome lining and nitriding both have basically the same benefits of protecting from corossion and wear.

Thanks. Weird that it isnt indicated if it is nitride coated.
If you want a chrome plated BCG, get the phosphated or parkerized unit. The nitriding process is used as a cheaper alternative because chrome plating involves very toxic chemicals that have to be disposed. Plating is used to prevent corrosion from disabling the arm in humid climates. It does not really affect the durability or performance of the part.
