BCA dropped an AK Today

I have been hearing about this for awhile, it apparently dropped today, I initially thought it might be a competitor for the GF3 but it looks like I was worried about nothing. Priced too high (I think) and not much detail out there on the construction/components of the gun. But what do I know I just shoot them not build them.

Any early adopters out there? Any one have any details?

If they just came out with it today then no one has one yet.

Meh, you never know if we have some gun tubers on here who may have got an advanced copy.

Black Rain has been selling them (rebranded) for about two weeks, IIRC. At least, that’s how long they’ve been bugging me about coming down the street to try one out…

First off, I am NOT a brand snob. I have lots of poor kids riding alongside my Gucci kids in the safes. All get very regular usage……the beauty of a private range for my backyard in the woods, AR’s-AK’s etc. That said…….BCA is the one brand I’ve had abysmal experiences with firsthand, and steer even the cheapest of cheapskates away from. I’ve got a couple K rounds through my gf3 blem now, and zero reason to overlook one for anything from BCA. Hell, I grab that gf3 over any of the zpaps for regular blowing off the steam after work. No particular reason but it just freakin works. It’s not to be a gun snob, fan boy, low budget hater etc. BCA regularly sends out very subpar assemblies, going by the several other shooters/builders/assemblers we know and train with and have seen firsthand, my attempt to use their stuff included. Run.

I have zero confidence in BCA building a quality AK. When I first got into ARs I bought a BCA side charging upper and it was ok, but I moved on pretty quickly into building my own uppers. It seemed ok to me at the time but I honestly didn’t know much. Still have it sitting in the corner of the safe.

It took PSA a couple of generations of AK rifles to get through the manufacturing learning curve and build something reliable and they have made improvements since then. I cannot see BCA making that kind of commitment. My sense is they’re riding a wave, trying to get what sales they can to get a decent ROI and will move on fairly quickly.

I really want to see a video of someone who knows what they are talking about, not some schill (are there BCA schills?), go through the gun and talk about what they see. Kind of like slowing down to look at a wreck on the side of the road. Call it morbid curiosity.

A crew of us bought BCA 308 uppers to see just how bad they were, and see who could make it work, a few years ago. Gas block set screws were hardly finger tight. One was missing the block/tube roll pin. All gas tubes were incorrect length @ 11-3/4” mid length but they need the 12-1/16” armalite carbine tubes. Contacted them about the tubes and explained clearly the short stroking issues, and they sent me for free, the same incorrect shorter tube. After getting a proper 12-1/16” tube from Anderson, it boiled down to good buffer spring/buffer combo……..no fault of BCA here. Springco orange and KAK 5.6oz +/- buffer, and it was good now aside from hating every mag imaginable besides hexmags. It was good at that point for around 200 rounds. And accuracy is honestly pretty good. But then the bcg cam pin sheared within those 200 rounds . Luckily the pin from PSA worked.

Tip of the hat to you for your patience resolving that issue to make a functioning upper.

That gas tube issue is ridiculous. Replacing an incorrect part with another incorrect part shows me it is not so much a QC issue but a systemic issue with how they manufacture their guns/uppers. Yours wasn’t an oops accidentally used the wrong part because human error or whatever. Someone addressed your complaint, checked their system for what they think is the correct part and sent you the very same part you already had. No one listened to your complaint about the size of the tube, nobody took a second to listen and think about what you were saying. Raise a concern, maybe check back with you…I don’t know. Maybe I expect too much.

I am even more concerned about the quality of the AKs after your story.

There’s always going to be those brand haters out there. I like them all until given a reason or reasons not to. Unfortunately BCA made that very short list of who I stay away from. I give every manufacturer that may have products that interes me, chances. I try to take into consideration mistakes etc. There was plenty of secondhand/online/embellishing complaints about them, before our crew bought the uppers. Went into it with a grain of salt anyways. But we learned some of the internet lore of BCA problems were not in fact, just hate. For an AK variant from them to run $900 bucks!……I stand by my sentiment that a basic gf3 is a far better choice, going by my usage of ours. Dang……..I might need to order another soon :innocent:

Uh oh……..it’s been a bit since I looked at gf3’s………there is that pretty voodoo furniture currently available. I’m running out of time here in Virginia :face_with_crossed_out_eyes:

About 5 yrs ago BCA SCH uppers Genl. Loose CH’s on all 4 in a short run ea. Then they offered the Genll upper exchange at our cost for $99 ea. Barrel nuts on 3 was just snug, set screws on gas blocks was loose. I still have the bear claw flute in 223 Wylde. After l returned a 22 upper l was done.
