Help With New AKV Concerns

I just took my new AKV to the range and shot about 320 rounds. It shot great and it was pretty accurate with my optic.

I just have two concerns that might be problems but maybe not. The first one is that the iron sights are way off out of the box and I’m not sure how to adjust elevation and windage. I’m using an optic anyways but I would like to have iron sights lined up right.

The second concern is that after shooting I noticed that there were many brass particles and tiny shavings scattered all throughout the interior. The inside of the dust cover and inside the receiver had tons of particles. I noticed that all the casings had scratches or bites taken out of them on the back. Has anyone else seen this? It was sort of a mess to clean up and don’t know if this might cause problems later.

Thanks for reading.

Was it brass or yellow powder/residue?

For your front sight, you’ll want this and i suggest AKOU videos on youtube beforehand for reference

It was definitely brass. The casings had deep scratches on them too. It shoots fine but I’m worried about too much buildup making gritty surfaces and causing wear.

I didn’t see that the first time I looked through accessories. Thanks, added it to my cart.

I am a new AKV owner. Has anyone been successful in obtaining a copy of the ATF approval letter for their side folding triangle brace? PSA’s Compliance Department has not been helpful despite repeated requests. Apparently the only approval requirement for AR/AK styled pistols is on the manufacturing side “if a brace is used”. That said, I have been getting stone walled every time I request a copy of PSA’s ATF approval letter for their side folding triangle brace!

If it’s of great importance for your peace of mind, I would suggest replacing it with another 1913 compatible brace that you have already obtained a copy for and selling the triangle on secondhand market.

And if you could very vaguely hint at where you might have listed a pre-owned psa triangle brace for sale, that would also be splendid.

The manufacture of the brace is SB:

You can check their website and email them for the approval if it has it.

If you don’t want to use it, your brace comes off easily and is okay to keep off the gun should it not be ok on the gun.

Perhaps I could contact PSA and ask for a warranty claim on the bolt?

Post pictures. More then likely they will want the gun back.

It’s the same picture zoomed in 2 times. This was the only picture I took before cleaning it. You can see the brass shavings all over the bolt. It’s worse inside. This was after 300 rounds. It shoots perfectly though so I don’t know if there’s really a problem?

Once I had a problem on a bolt carrier from Springfield armory and they sent me a shipping label to send it back no questions asked. They sent me a new BCG right away without even commenting on the faulty one when they got it. I don’t have any experience with PSA customer service but hopefully it’s similar to that. Having that level of customer service is what will keep me buying certain brands.

Do you have a pic of the spent brass?

The other parts look normal

What brand ammo is that?

Looks to be “Armscor” brass

It’s Geco. All new brass of course. I think it’s related to Norma. It did the same with federal too.

How about a pic of the bolt face? Sorry for the questions, just trying to help if possible so you dont have to send it it.

Geco is not made in the USA. That brass should be Armscor judging from the headstamp

Thanks! Excellent lead, and in fact mine is a SB TF1913 brace (PSA Compliance Dept told me it was not). Have since downloaded the SB compliance letter. My biggest concern was that these pistols can look a lot like an SBR to an uninformed police officer, and one could run into a hassle while shooting at the range, or even at a traffic stop. Unfortunately, a gun owner may be completely legal and correct, yet still find themself attracting unwanted scrutiny. This is why it is good to know exactly what you own, and to be educated in these laws and statutes. Thanks again!
