Been Collecting 45 ACP Brass ... Which Magazine for Rock Island 1911?

I do target shooting at the range in Merlin, Oregon.

I like to shoot at 300 yards, since I get more exercise that way.

A lot of times, I am done in 5 minutes, and don’t want to inconvenience the other shooter with a target change, so I’ve been collecting brass.

And thinking about which handgun to buy.

The 45ACP 1911 from Rock Island I think kind of stands out - Links Below.

But I’m trying to figure - What Magazine ?

Will the Springfield Armory 45ACP 1911 fit in a Rock Island 45ACP 1911 ?

I’m more familiar with AR15 and AR10 mags.

Thanks for any info !

I ended up with “enough” 45 ACP brass. I already have 45 cal bullets, related to owning a 450 Bushmaster.
So I just need a die set … and the handgun itself - and maybe a few extra magazines.

Got to admire PSA & Rock Island for keeping the prices reasonable !

I use 8 rd Chip McCormick mags in my .45 1911. Wilson Combat also makes great mags. I have some Springfield 7rd GI mags that are also gtg.

I have been shooting a RIA Tactical exclusively for 6 years, participating in USPSA, single stack. I would agree that Wilson Combat makes very good magazines. I have had great success with Check Mate Magazines also. Well made 1911 magazines have similar traits that indicate quality; follower design & base plate design are what come to mind.

I quite like the Metalform 7 round mags with the rounded follower. They are really reliable mags for a decent price.

Any standard 1911 magazine will fit it so that Springfield magazine should work. One of my LGSs has a box of loose used magazines on the counter. I look through it when I’m in and have collected various 1911 mags, including Springfield, 1 stainless Colt 8 rounder and some Chip McCormick extended magazines. They all work.

Absolutely, Fact That!

There is always the Ed Brown mag exchange program if you come across some magazines that refuse to function. Great program for swapping out Promag tier magazines instead of just throwing them in the trash.

Ed Brown 9mm mags for the 1911 are made by Checkmate. My experience with them has always been solid. I’ve used the Ed Brown exchange program, no issues.
