Been thinking about this since it came on sale. Any of you guys have experience or thoughts? I read some decent reviews.
Is that the popup-barrel pistol, also in .25ACP and .380ACP?
I don’t know how bad the .22LR can be, but my Brother was less than impressed.
It does do the popup. Are there specific issues with it?
He just had feeding issues with the one he had. He divested himself of that investment….
22 .25 or 380?
I’ve introduced a Doubt into my memory now, but I want to say it was a .25?
I never shot it before he traded it off.
i have the .25 version, and its a good little pistol… i was given it. If i had purchased, i’d probably have bought the .22 myself, because of the ease of availability of ammo, when compared to .25
I just saw the .32, decisions, decisions?
Thanks for the tickler…
Anybody that thinks PSA is not doing their best at moving things along , even when they’re having issues, needs to see this post. Order placed yesterday evening, email for shipping label created this afternoon and probably on it’s way to my FFL tomorrow. Serialized item that quick? Unheard of.
Kudos PSA!
thats a heck of a turn around… wow… too cool
Which caliber did you decide on?
32
That would be my choice as well. .32 ACP/32auto is a nice cartridge!
Decided on the Tomcat and finally got to the range today, only Ammo I could find was Speer Gold Dot HP… Bad idea to try and break a semi in with HPs. Had a few feed issues at the start always the first round out of the mag. Took the mag apart and dri-lube / graphited interior. I think the follower maybe got tilted a little and a burr on feed lip. Figured nickel-plated casings would possibly work to smooth that tiny burr up and it worked. Worked fine after a bunch of hand cycling.
Running just fine now.
2.9" barrel @ 10 yds. None off silhouette with double taps and a few tre’s.
End of the day? I’m really happy with it.
Now I just gotta order up some ball ammo as that was the most expensive break-in I’ve done at over a buck and a half a round.
Edit to add: My God was it tight on unboxing. Probably has over a thousand hand cycles through it now but it’s got a real good feel to it now.
PSA sent me an email asking for a review of the 21A, 22LR FDE with the threaded barrel. I’ve left reviews for other items here, but there was no review link to be found on the product page so I’ll just do it here.
Out of the box, the gun is problematic. Fortunately I found a lucky solution, and I love the noisy cricket now. This is a great gun for plinking and potentially self defense if you need a smaller caliber, easier to use firearm.
The factory magazine is supossed to hold 8 but no other mag brand out there touts 8 rounds… 7 is all any of them can do without feed issues. Even at 7 the factory mag was still hit or miss.
I ordered other brands and then landed on Mec-Gar. The Mec-Gar mags have greatly improved the reliability. There may be other mags that have it dialed in but this was the first I found that worked very well. I don’t know if Wilson Combat even makes a mag for the 21A.
I do love the threaded barrel and have played with some compensators and brakes… but of course they all make the tiny sights useless. Still… adding a little weight and the placebo of a compensator makes it fun to shoot from the hip.
Very concealable of course. Made my own kydex IWB… then installed a Pearce grip so it doesn’t fit my custom holster anymore. That might be a weekend project to make a new holster. I may go back to the stock grips though as the Pearce makes pressing the tip-up release harder. While on topic, I had to trim the mag release hole on the Pearce grip to keep the button from rubbing/getting stuck on the grip. All that said, the Pearce grips are really comfy and not hard to get set up correctly.
I haven’t had this pistol long enough to give a fully educated review… but I’m really enjoying it now that the feeding issues have been resolved. I’d be very interested in a pinky extension that fits the Mec-Gar mags for a little more control. I have a mag with the pinky base-plate and may move it over to see if it works. This has so little flip that it really isn’t needed though.
I went with the 32 Tomcat and love it. It did have mag issues, I took it down and sprayed everything with a Graphite Dry Lube and worked the burr off the lip, works fine now. You may want to try that. It was tight AF out of the box, used a grease and oil mixture and hand cycled it probably between 500 and a thousand times. It was a sewing machine yesterday at the range. Surprisingly accurate for a 2.9" barrel. It is a fun, reliable little shooter. Ammo used , Speer Gold Dot, Hornady Critical Defense, Magtech and PMC FMJ. I hated using Speer @ almost a $1.50 a pop to break it in a couple weeks ago. Five star review when they give me the chance. Did you get the $150 rebate?
Not the exact same thing, but I have an old Beretta 950 Jetfire .25acp with the tip-up barrel. Both my father and grandfather are gone, but apparently the Beretta was grandpa’s backup when he was a sheriff way back in the day. It’s in very good shape, I took it out to the range once, still functions perfectly. I know it’s a post-1968 because of the safety, the 1953-67s didn’t have one, I assume it’s from right around that late 60s era.
Cool little piece, out of everything I have it usually gathers the most questions.
