How come all these recent train derailments always seem to have chemicals or hazardous materials on board?

It’s because pipelines aren’t a safe and efficient way to transport liquids
Understood. But my point is why aren’t the trains with cargo containers and loads of lumber derailing at the same pace? It’s just the hazardous shipments that seem to be affected.
It’s not even Summer yet. I think that’s when trains wreck the most IIRC. Something about the heat and expansion futzing with thee gauge.

One of the reasons could be that lumber and such is a static load, whereas tanker cars may not necessarily be as static. This coupled with harmonic rocking, running trains about 3x as long as they should, and IGNORING FAULT DETECTORS makes these types of trains a little more likely to derail. Thank you, PSR*, I hate you.
