Buffer getting chewed up

Galloway is great. :+1: from me.

I agree. I saw the same thing on a build I did with a Bear Creek upper and a PSA lower that didn’t mate well together. Before buying anything, remove the buffer and spring and close the action. On mine when I do this I can slide a piece of paper from the bottom all the way to the top. When the buffer is there, the bolt carrier is resting against the buffer and there is no space. If you can still slide a piece of paper up there with the buffer & spring in place, the pin is holding back the buffer. Although if you’ve shot it enough the buffer may have worn away enough that it’s now touching the rear of the BCG.

I’m going to have to make a correction to my previous suggestion. I just went and checked the build with PSA upper and lower and there is not enough space to pass a piece of paper with the action closed regardless of the buffer. With the Bear Creek upper and PSA lower there is enough space to pass a piece of paper if the buffer isn’t there. It might be easier to slide it down from the top rather than from the curve on the bottom if yours has enough gap to pass the paper. The advice from someone else above to check the fit with both takedown pins removed and see if the buffer is applying pressure to the rear of the bolt carrier is probably the better way.
