Hi All,
So, I bought a PSA chf 14.7” pinned and welded mid length upper and could use some advice on a correct buffer. I’m currently also using a Toolcraft Nickel boron BCG and a H1 buffer.
Carbine shoots great and ejection pattern is 3:30 to 4 which is good, ammo is 62grain green tip. Problem I’m having is that the firing pin retaining pin in the BCG is bending so I’m either over gassed or have an out of spec BCG.
I was thinking of trying an H2 buffer and JP spring but since the ejection pattern is good I’m not sure. Want the carbine to be reliable.
How is that pin bending? Can you post some pics?
Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately I can’t take pics because I threw two retainers away and put in a new one to give it another try. The retaining “collar” of the firing pin is hitting the retaining pin and slightly bending it. I have four other AR’s and never had this issue. The firing pin is getting slammed around for sure. If I I try an H2 buffer to slow down bolt velocity , I’m afraid it won’t be reliable.
Nothing from Nothing …but why are you using an H1 Buffer with what is still considered a Standard Length Semi Auto Carbine to begin with?
I have Carbines from 11.5 , 14 7 and 16 inch and have never needed a heavier than standard buffer.
How many Firing Pin Retainer Pins has this combo damaged?
If there is Any chance the Retaining Pin isnt seating into the BCG Recess properly? Pin Legs too far apart?
Try putting the Pin in with the Eye Holes pointing North/South.
Pin is all the way in, I’ll try the north south idea with the pin, I understand it has more strength this way. I have H1’s in all of my AR’s, three of which are middy’s with no issues. On my others the direction of the pin hasn’t mattered. I did order a SOLGW BCG just to see if it is an out of spec BCG. I like the Toolcraft BCG though ( except for this) and would like to keep using it. Hasn’t had a lot of rounds through it yet and it’s bent two pins.
Good Luck… I’m a Toolcraft fan myself.
Thank you!
If i had to guess, your SOLGW bcg is probably a toolcraft. They are the largest maker of OEM BCGs.![]()
It just might be! I’ve “heard” they’re Microbest but really not sure.
I got 14.7 upper from psa and the tool craft from psa nickel boron ccg with psa lower and two stage nickel boron trigger all from psa
Put a thousand rounds so far
Not one single issue!!
That’s good news! What buffer are you using?
Unless otherwise stated? They come with the Stock 2.9 Ounce Buffers
Buying a Lower is a potential Mult Model use and Caliber capable thing . so they come Basic…its up to the end user to buy what they need for the finished piece , Pistol. Carbine or Rifle.
Besides. They can’t sell you an Upgrade by just giving them away. ![]()
Thanks for the reply’s!
This. North to south orientation
