Anyone know how to make good non-obvious concealment furniture?
I was gonna by a display curio with amazingly hidden 12 long gun storage but couldn’t talk the guy down on the price and I didn’t want to drive back ways out of my way to try to fit the thing in the minivan and try to get it downstairs myself.
That unit used mirrors to cleverly hide the long guns even when you were mucking about in the curio. At the time I figured the prices of everything were gonna stay at cheap covid levels. Shoulda just bought it but would like to build something slightly smaller and doesn’t smell like a 70’s casino.
as nice as they are, anytime I see a wooden American flag, or 2A statement I know what’s in there. My friend wanted to get a book safe but it was some random title written by “we the people” and I think to myself, “Only the least well read criminals would see that and think it’s not hiding something”.
I’m talking like Display cabinet that work as a display for my other collections that also conceal storage, or like plain furniture with hidden releases…non of that guaranteed to fail eventually rfid stuff…and after having tons of those magnetic locks on stuff because of my kids I know they can be janky AF. Better imho than RFID tho.
Install a jewelry drawer insert into your night stand. It will give you a drawer inside your drawer where you can conceal your nightstand pistol.
I’ll post a picture of mine when I get home.
hmm… a jewelry drawer insert is an interesting idea..
I know they make shelfs that you can put things in too.. i’ve seen all sorts of concealment furniture out there, but usually folks charge a arm n a leg for it.
with a brief google, i found this website and they seem to have a better selection than just the flags and shelves that everyone else seem to peddle.
Yes, concealment furniture is crazy expensive for what it is. DIY is probably better economically. Here’s my nightstand.
very nice exactly where my mind is goin.
So now i know where you live AND where you keep your gun.![]()

This could be done cheap with some magnets and a box…
I’m sure you can find matching duct work at big box hardware stores.
i was thinking the same thing!
the thing with vents though is theyve been shown in so many movies, its where people who are lookign for stuff, will look usually.. or at least its where i would look
lol.. seriously johnny nicely done sir!! nicely done!! i dont think i could do something quite that good.. i lack the skill i think..
Send bachelors
I bought a vent safe and it wasn’t big enough to fit any of my pistols in
, I need to get some sheet metal and make my own I think.
From the talk about town I’ve heard it’s more about placement of vents you know having it on the inside of an exterior wall might just give it away to a smart criminal.
I like the clock but I’m pretty sure wife would get pissed if I drilled an bolted to oak nightstand…
The clock is good, but again an old head criminal will see the size of that thing and assume A. it’s hiding something, and or B. It’s worth at least 5-10 bucks ,either way my guess is they just take the whole thing and figure it out later.
If you live in an older home that has had the ductwork redone over the years, toy may have registers or returns still in the walls or floors or even ceilings that are just duds now. Those would work the best to not draw any extra attention.
I may have to play with this idea. Off the top of my head i think it would be pretty easy to hide behind trim. Possibly. Find a good like minded carpenter in town. Better to discuss in person than online anyway if you live in Wyoming id be happy to chat. Just had a lightbulb moment.
Alright now you got me thinking: a 13x48 mirror that was trimmed out may be a simple solution. Standard framing is 16” OC which gives you a 14.5” gap between studs. Exterior walls where I live are 2x6 framed. This would give you plenty of storage for potentially 2 rifles and a pistol. Cut the drywall out where you want it, frame
in a little box inside, cover it with a mirror, trim it out if need be. You could put it on hinges or maybe cabinet sliders (if they make them that small).
Also a solid idea. Maybe even one of the easiest to do.I’ve seen a few that use RFID, but here’s my twist the opening mechanism is attached to secret lever or button or device. That’d tingle my pringles.
But your option is 7 bucks for a mirror
what 15-20 for sheet metal
couple bucks for hinges
nails/screws couple bucks if you gotta buy a box of whatever
and a mag lock?
less than 40$ all in?
I think something like this is the winner.
Remote Latching mechanisms.
Yeah I mean some scrap lumber and the mirrors and as long as you cut the drywall tight you would be fine. If it is an exterior wall you would want to insulate it to keep from corroding your firearms, you can by 1-2 inch foam insulation if you have the batt insulation in there. And I just used some cabinetry clasps recently on a project. Basically hidden latching mechanism. Cost me 1.50 at ace hardware. And then just some hidden cabinetry hinges and you are gold. So yeah, $40-50.
