Different levels of coatings on PSA parts

I have seen freedom, phosphate, nitride, and CHF Barrels offered and yes I know CHF is cold hammer forged with chrome lining. But for some of us newbies what is what?

@Josiah_PSA or @sean.psa can give you the absolute specifics, but there are two things in your post.

First, Freedom is one of their lines. Usually it is Classic<Freedom<Premium.

In those lines, and I may be mistaken, are the finishes. Phosphate is the classic, Nitride is the Freedom, CHF is the premium (historically with an FN Made barrel).

There have been other lines through the years, such as PTac, and those have offered other finishes. Stainless is another finish that i think is Freedom line, usually seen on their 308 barrels.

@jeffsmilitarysurplus @GuitarGuy This is a great question. Let me see if I can clarify.

  1. When you see “Classic” on a kit, PA15 pistol/rifle, or lower etc., it is referring to the furniture. It is basic mil-spec furniture, or in the case of pistol, something not as good as the SBA3’s. The MFT blade etc. are considered to be “Classic” and the base when it comes to pistol braces.

  2. “Freedom” Our Freedom Series is both the phosphate(non-chrome lined) and the nitrided/melonited barrels.

  3. “Premium” Our Premium line is our FN CHF/CL barreled upper receivers/kits/guns.

In reality we only have two lines. Freedom and Premium. Classic just refers to the furniture.

I hate to throw gum into the works but then I must know where the psa cold hammer forge falls into this lineup. Is it on par with the fn chf or is it another part lineup entirely!?!? Thanks.

@GamecockOperator That doesn’t apply to the AR line, since we are doing just FN CHF barrels for the PSA AR line. The PSA CHF only is for the AK’s! You thought you had me!!

hmmm… memory serves me otherwise… but for now i’ll accept the answer… although i coulda sworn ive seen build kits with psa nitride chf barrels that were not FN produced in the past… :wink:
