Different Nitride Barrels?

Can someone speak to the difference between these two barrels?

Both are described as A2 profile, 4150 Chrome-Moly Vanadium, nitride finish, no chrome lining, same thread, same twist. The picture I inserted here is from a lower-priced “classic” kit while the link will take you to a more expensive kit (EPT, MBUS sights, etc…)

Pictured barrel differs from the one pictured on this listing: https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-16-5-56-nato-1-7-mid-length-nitride-13-5-lightweight-m-lok-moe-ept-rifle-kit-516446780.html

As you can see, the profile near the muzzle is slightly different. One is labeled “freedom,” the other is not. The kit linked is the one I purchased twice. Got Freedom barrel once and the barrel above once.

What is the reason for the difference?

Thanks!!

@kermur I’m going to steal this response from @Josiah_PSA that he posted to another thread.

  1. When you see “Classic” on a kit, PA15 pistol/rifle, or lower etc., it is referring to the furniture. It is basic mil-spec furniture, or in the case of pistol, something not as good as the SBA3’s. The MFT blade etc. are considered to be “Classic” and the base when it comes to pistol braces.

  2. “Freedom” Our Freedom Series is both the phosphate(non-chrome lined) and the nitrided/melonited barrels.

  3. “Premium” Our Premium line is our FN CHF/CL barreled upper receivers/kits/guns.

In reality we only have two lines. Freedom and Premium. Classic just refers to the furniture.

If you will include the link to the upper you got the picture from I should be able to give you an exact difference. More than likely its simply just different furniture and maybe a different profile barrel.

Hopefully this answers your question!

The link in my post is the exact kit I ordered (twice). In January it came with one barrel, in April came with the different profile barrel. The same kit, same furniture, two different nitride barrels.

Edit: here is the link where I got that picture: https://palmettostatearmory.com//psa-16-mid-length-5-56-nato-1-7-nitride-13-5-lightweight-m-lok-classic-rifle-kit10.html

When I ordered in January, it came with the non-freedom stamped barrel, in April it came with freedom stamped barrel.

Thanks for info!

@kermur I’m tracking on your question now. So in order to keep certain popular kits in stock sometimes we will have to update listings with parts that are available to us at the time. This is a great example of that, we more than likely did not have the same profile barrel available to us that was available in January. So in order to get this kit back in stock we take an available barrel and update the listing.

Thanks for the info Anthony.
