Everything AR

Pros and cons for home defense weapon. Is the ar platform smart for a home defense weapon.

Lots of variables to consider.

Please start the debate.

@Jduv1000706 at this point I prefer my handgun with a light over my ar.

@GuitarGuy I am the say way. I keep a Glock 17 close by with light and laser for any bumps in the night. I have all options ready to go, but I feel most comfortable with a handgun. I have begun purchasing PSA parts along the way to begin building a 9mm AR to bridge the gap. I find myself coming up with more reasons to justify buying or building just one more.

Black rifle disease is real!!!:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I’m very happy that I found this site and have been very please with everything that I have purchased here! Thank you PSA for all the great products, forums and giveaways.

I live in an area known for gang activity. If i ever (God forbid) have a home defense situation, there is a good chance that there may be multiple threats to engage. Those threats may all be armed with stolen or otherwise illegally obtained ARs or AKs. And of course they will come with 30-rd mags topped-off (if they are able to find any ammo nowadays).

I have no desire to limit my fire power or ability to engage a multitude of targets knowing that anyone knocking on my door at 3am to sell me Girl Scout cookies will not limit theirs.

I agree. I don’t want to limit my fire power or ability to engage. I have lived in all areas of life and my current house doesn’t have neighbors super close. I am not worried about bullet travel or innocent bystanders. That would be my biggest concern when reaching for the right firearm but if I ever have to grab one it’s going to be focused on self defense. Whatever I grab though is going to have a light laser combo.

Mossberg 12 gauge for in the house, with a G17 as a backup. SBR AR for defense of the property. Other options for longer ranges.

SBR AR15 for Home defense.

I love this platform for home defense. Using a carbine in a defense situation is a great choice. Apparently at short distances, a 55-grain FMJ round will yaw or tumble when it impacts at close range. You definitely have to worry about penetration into the next room but this ballistic characteristic may rival using a 9mm hollow point round in a home. This is a great article on the subject: gun digest article.

Come and get some… 9 rounds on tap, 8 rounds in the side saddle and a 50 round bandolier as backup.
