Extractor spring upgrade

Just a heads up, the ARV ships with a standard extractor spring only. At around the 2,000 round mark my gun started to get some failure to extract.
I replaced the spring with a BCM 4 coil and rubber post and the issue seemed to have gone away.

This is worrisome to me that I’d need to watch that extractor spring at such a low round count. This is the coolest firearm and I’d like to get one eventually, but might have to consider the AK-V. I’m not a big AK fan, but maybe I should be?
jpm2958, maybe you could post a link to that “BCM 4 coil and rubber post”?

I wouldn’t be concerned about it. Many people (myself included) perform the upgrade as soon as they get a new AR

Thanks, ordering one now. At the gun range waiting for my GuBeRmEnT approval for my AR-V 4” couldn’t be more excited!

The AR-V does not “ship with a standard extractor spring”. The 9mm BCG used by the AR-V is completely different from your standard AR-15 BCG and doesn’t even have the spring and o-ring mentioned. I’m curious how your managed to replace the non existent “standard spring” with the BCM upgraded spring when there is no spring to begin with…

Have you tried taking your extractor apart? You will see there is a spring in there. Pretty sure I know what I replaced on my gun……

I did, but it has a leaf style spring, not a coil spring like the BCM coil and rubber washer mentioned (which I have used myself on my AR-15). I’m genuinely curious if your BCG is different than mine if yours has a coil, which I would definitely prefer as the standard AR-15 setup seems sturdier and more reliable. Any chance you can provide a picture?

I just recently got my AR-V and I know PSA changes things up from time to time, so maybe I got a different “version” or something?

Here’s what my “spring” looks like (this is a screenshot from a video I found, I’m not at home atm).

Here it is in the 9MM BCG.

That’s the actual extractor.

That’s a completely different bolt than my ARV

One of you doesn’t have an AR-V apparently…posted pics of the guns.

This does not appear to be an AR-V BCG. Is this a video you took, or one you found online for reference? If its not a personal video, could you please take pictures of the BCG that came with your firearm for me?

Here are a couple pictures I just took of an AR-V BCG we have here in the office.

Those are just pics I found online that looked closest to what I remembered. I’m not at home now but I’ll get some pics tonight. Mine does look just like the pics Josh posted though. Maybe I didn’t fully break down my AR-V BCG when I was playing with it. Is there a AR-16 style coil spring in there somewhere?

There should be a AR-15 style spring underneath the extractor when its disassembled.

Awesome! I’ll take it apart tonight and find that sucker. Thanks for help guys!

Did you use the spring, post and o-ring? Or just the spring and post? Thanks in advance.
