Failure to Feed

Maybe polishing compound or old timey cheap toothpaste in the channel and use your CH, they’ll be match ground after that. Kinda confused though, the channel where the gas key rides or the CH?

An FFL can order the good mags and dowel them for you. Lots of MD shops are doing this now since MSP gave them the ok. MSP says as long as it’s limited to 10 even with just a dowel, then we can get them. Take them home, slide off the bottom plate and chuck the dowel.I’m lucky that my FFL/Gun shop 2 minutes from home is already in PSA ‘s ffl registry, so it’s easy peasy

Put some grease on the CH where it rides through the upper receiver channel (not where the gas key goes). Once you get a little on, you’ll see more places to lubricate as the lube smears around. It works much nicer afterwards!

The carrier strike face (it would be the gas key if a DI system) rides inside the CH, the CH rides in the track/channel of the upper. I think some toothpaste run through there with a lot of manual cycling might help smooth it out. It definitely binds in the rear range of travel (last inch if manually pulling the CH back).

The CH would stay put during a firing cycle, hence my confusion.

That’s a good point - you could lube the track that the gas key goes thru, but it probably doesn’t touch. Lubing the top saves a lot of wear and tear on the CH and upper receiver for when it’s actually used, and you’ll see a lot of bare aluminum over time. Using grease instead of oil keeps the lube in place.

That last inch is also where your spring and buffer are almost at max rear travel/compression. Make sure everything there is gtg.

How many people have filed/polished down the sharp edges on their bolt like Blowback9 did in this post? Does it help for feeding issues?

Have not done a thing to my bolt. Polishing is one thing, but changing geometry makes me nervous.

I built the AR V kit and added the HBPDW brace that comes with a buffer and spring. Every 3-5th shot is a fail to feed. I even ordered a different barrel thinking it was that, but still having problems. Any help is appreciated.

What barrel, what ammo? How heavy of a buffer?

I’m running a Spinta 5.25 barrel and 124gr ball and i’m running the HBPDW brace which uses a 7.9oz buffer.
I removed the brace and put on a standard pistol tube-spring and a 5.5oz 9mm buffer and it runs fine now. I’m guessing it does not like the heavy buffer. I’m actually planning to see if the HBPDW will run with a lighter buffer.

My AR-V has similar issues to the original posters issues. The failure to feed issue is not only 95% of the time but also just chambering from a new mag by releasing the bolt hold open or pulling back the charging handle and releasing.

Weird enough I fired two mags through it flawlessly when I got it almost a year ago. Now a few days ago I figured I actually sight it in, most painful three mags ever.

What ammo?

115 gr. FMJ. Brass case. Also 124 gr. Fmj brass case.

Factory mags, have several and no difference in functionality.

Thanks

Can you post pics of the feedramp area? And did you lube it good?

Was well oiled.

Anyway, I think I found my problem.
Sorry bad picture and only one. Doesn’t let me do more
