I’m in NJ so I had to get a fixed mag lower set-up so I went with DSI, I have the upper receiver too. I’m looking to purchase a PSA AR pistol kit, most likely 7.5 inch in 300 blackout to do this build but I essentially will be wasting the upper receiver that comes in the kit, correct? I think it would be pointless to not use the DSI upper since it was machined to fit perfectly with the lower receiver. FYI I am perfectly fine with not using the PSA upper that comes with the kit I will be purchasing, but would it make more sense to piece this together on my own instead of buying the kit?
You would be better building your own and getting what you want.

It costs roughly the same to build a comparable upper from scratch. If you want something specific, you will be happier pulling together the parts and building up what you really want.

newbie here. built my first M4 .300 BlLK pistol build. my daughter’s boyfriend helped me along they way . he gave me a list of parts to buy & i shopped them. i ended up building the lower & he finished the upper (he had the tools & i didn’t).
Final cost was slightly less than any mfg i could find but the experience was worth it.
This is my PDW & is tuned for 220gr subsonic loads & sighted in using 25/200yd setup

yes, he is a great guy. funny thing is they went to high school together. 15 years later, viola they meet!
we are going to be starting our next build later this summer. 6.5 creed for him and 556 for me.

My first build and I’m hooked! PSA makes it way to easy and affordable. l cheated on top with a Wolf A1 16"upper . It’s a short stroke piston clone of the Taiwanese T-91. I put it on an Anderson “Molon Labe” lower with some parts from a PSA lower parts kit and a sweet PSA enhanced trigger. The kit came with the Magpul MOE+ grip and I added the MTF Battlelink stock. ACOG onto top it off. It go BOOM! So smooth, I love shooting it!

Hey guys, I’m new to the forum and late to the game on this thread. By just scrolling through the different threads, it seems like everybody is here to talk guns, share their experience, ask questions and share their builds. I’m on several FB gun pages and quite frankly most of those guys are like a bunch of women. If you’re not buying $3000 rifles or $300 BCGs, you’re poor and get drug through the mud. It’s refreshing to see this forum. Anyways, enough babbling. I just wanted to share my build.

That’s a good looking build. Most of those guys that parrot $3k rifles only do so because of the name brand. Give me a good barrel, trigger, and optic, and I’ll put a frankenbuild next to any of them.

I 2nd this. I have taken the frankenbuild I posted the other day against a bunch of higher end rifles and its never let me down. Its more in the shooter than the firearm. Buying a nice gun doesnt make you a good shooter, but a good shooter can take a cheap gun and do wonders.
