Hello everyone! I’m currently building my first AR15 and am looking for future build ideas. With the current political environment causing ammo shortages and price increases, what would your recommendations be for something that would be available even with a “ban”?
The standard nato calibers. 9mm, 5.56, .45, 308/762
Anytime I build an AR I always start out with an intended purpose for that particular AR. No AR is good for every situation. That is why many of us have multiple AR in different lengths and calibers. You have to answer what your intended purpose is for it and how far out you are planning on shooting. Is it for CQB, home defense, plinking, target shooting, a simple carbine for different uses or do you actually have a specific purpose in mind?
The one I’m building currently I plan on just using at the range to learn the system. I’d like to build an ar10 for hunting and longe range target shooting. My concerns is that the prices go higher and availability goes down for those standard ammo types whenever there is talk of gun control or something on the news.
I’ve built a few ARs - started with plain jane, then one with a few features, then fully tricked out. My suggestion: get what you want on the first one, or just keep upgrading. It can be an expensive hobby… cheaper to buy Legos
That said, I’m considering an AR-10 build. It doesn’t look as straightforward as the AR-15. Maybe I’ll just try and trade up one of my AR-15s for a factory built AR-10?
If you do an ar10 build at the very least get the upper and lower receiver from the same manufacturer to ensure fit. There is not a standard with ar10 like there is with ar15s.
