Got myself the CMMG .22lr conversion kit for Father's Day

I must say, I am really surprised on how well it works. Put several different types of ammo through it and it ran great, all except some Norma lead free ammo I had bought to try. Nothing runs that crap, not even my 10/22. It does make a mess to clean up but it’s worth it for how much more practice and plinking I can do without going broke. Mine came with the upgraded mags and had no issues with them having 25 rounds in them, ran smooth. They are a ■■■■■ to load so I printed a speed loader that makes it much easier. PSA has the best price and I caught a free shipping deal, so I am very pleased with this purchase. Have to save up for extra mags, now.

Black Dog magazines work well too.

Good deal! Mine works great too. I do have to adjust my scope but I got that down. Takes me a minute to get on target. It does make a mess though. When I’m done I put a mag of 5.56 through and get the scope set.

Ive not seen that mag before. Mine are this pattern but have orange followers.

I picked up 2 extra mags at my local gun shop, so 4 for each kit total.

I have 2 cmmg conversion kits. They have been flawless for me. I tend to lube the conversion bcg before install then run a bore snake through the barrel when done. Every other time I bore snake the bcg barrel extension & use a wet patch to clean the carbon fouling off the outside of the bcg barrel extension.

From what I read/saw there were some complaints that some people couldn’t run 25 rounds but only 20 otherwise they were having ftf problems so they re-designed them. I had no issues with 25, at least the first time I used them.

The only “problem” the kit ever gave me was technically of my own making: I ran it for a couple of weeks, and did not pull the BCG out of the rifle and clean the chamber. It was running just fine, so I let it ride.

The Carbon Ring it left in the chamber was truly a force of Nature - I must have soaked and cleaned the rifle ten times before it would chamber a 5.56 again…

Let my Stupidity be your Warning: clean the chamber when you’re done! Just a quick swab with a Nylon brush will do, no biggie.

How is your accuracy running a 1:7 - 1:8 twist upper?

my rifle is a 1:7, It ain’t a tack driver but I can burn a 1" hole at 25 yards. Fliers happen but it’s not bad for a short range plinker. I use it more for doing drills but plinking is fun too.

That’s good to hear. I haven’t had a chance to go over 25 yards with it but it was doing just fine at that distance.

the way I thought of it, if I want a tack driving .22 AR I would get a dedicated upper with a better barrel. This is a plinking rifle that gives me the feel of my AR with a slight recoil impulse. One guy I was shooting by asked what I was shooting, said at first he thought it was a 5.56 with a suppressor. It’s even quiet for a .22lr. Gotta be something with the gas system quieting it down some.

Im about the same to 25-30 yards, more for shooting drill practice.
10 yards or less I’m doing a fist high holdover.
I’ve never adjusted my red dots or LPVO for .22 conversion.

That is very good to know about your experience with optics! I have a PSA dedicated 22 upper 7 1/2" barrel that I’m happy with other than l lost my brace. Getting ready to train for cheek weld off the buffer to hunt squirrels with a grandson.
One of my granddaughter’s coming up thru the ranks (13 yr old) is why l ask about the conversion. She loves 9mm and 5.56 AR platform and she will go thru some ammo!
I have a FN CHF 14.7 PSA upper on a nice lower… 25/30 yards ringing steel with a 22, my wallet will thank me.
Thanx AZ_Joe

If you have BIS or MBUS, 10-15 yards or less looking over the top of the rear peep sight to the front post gives a similar offset to the fist high hold.
I.E. the over the top look puts rounds in a 1.5-2" circle at point of aim.

I was very happy to run 200+ rounds of .22lr running that when it was taught to me.

I crank my scope up 12 clicks and left 2 clicks and I will be spot on at 25 yards. Then back again when I switch back to 5.56 .

These are fun and do save money on ammo.
I bought one for my wife to use thinking she would enjoy shooting more with the 22lr, but she really prefers the 5.56.
I’ll definitely be using it though.

Not gonna start a new topic when it’s right here. As stated before l have a dedicted pistol upper. I am studying hard on a rifle barrel from CMMG correct for my bolt assembly (from PSA and looks just like a CMMG). Rate of twist is my goal for yardage targets i.e. small game.
And no more cheek weld to the buffer and go MOE stock on the shoulder.

Now this PSA bought not built staked lower is registered as a pistol. Will l be ok with BATFE to convert to rifle?

According to this it can legally be converted that way and then back to a pistol. I’m not an attorney and can’t give legal advice as they’re currently all over the map but I would say yes. If any here feel I am misinformed please feel free to correct me.
